NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- The University of New Hampshire women's cross country team earned a second place finish among 12 teams at the Ted Owen Invitational 5k race on Saturday morning hosted by Central Connecticut State at Stanley Quarter Park.
The Wildcats finished the race with three of the top six finishers amassing 51 total points, which included freshman Delaney Hesler's (Steep Falls, Maine) third place finish with a time of 18:04. Junior Kira Nolan (Richmond, Vt.) placed fifth at 18:06, while senior Nicole Yeomans (Foxborough, Mass.) made her season debut with a sixth place finish and a time of 18:07.
"It was good to be out their racing, we have been training well for the last two weeks, I think we have taken some really nice steps in the right direction," said UNH head coach Robert Hoppler. "We finished a close second to URI, I was happy with the way we ran and happy with the way we competed up at the front with three runners up in that front pack, they ran really well. We are doing a good job of putting the team together as the season goes on and we have an exciting group that's continuing to race well."
Sophomores Lily Doody (Lee, N.H.) and Hannah Langstaff (Windham, Maine) placed 18th and 19th in the race with a time of 19:12.
Sophomore Claire Ronan (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) posted a time of 19:29, which placed 27th at the event.
UNH returns to action on Friday, September 30 at the Paul Short Invitational (10:15am) hosted by Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa. at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course.
