UNH is ranked for the second consecutive preseason in the USTFCCCA rankings
NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The University of New Hampshire women's cross country team is ranked No. 14 in the Northeast Region preseason rankings that were released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Thursday.
The Wildcats return 13 student-athletes from a season ago and add four newcomers to the roster for the upcoming season, which includes senior Nicole Yeomans (Foxborough, Mass.) and America East Rookie of the Year Jill Walker (Simi Valley, Calif.).
"We are excited and pleased to be ranked," said UNH head coach Robert Hoppler. "Preseason rankings are always exciting and based off of expectations. We return a strong group with some talented newcomers and we are looking to live up to that ranking and improve that ranking as the season goes along. We are looking to continue in the strong tradition of excellence we have established in the last two decades with the women's cross country program."
The 'Cats have won six out of the last nine conference championships and seven overall (2003, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019). The seven titles are the most by any current America East team and are the second-most all-time.
UNH is the only school from America East to be ranked in the Top 15 in the Northeast preseason regional rankings.
The Wildcats open their racing season on Friday, September 9 at the Friar Invitational in Attleboro, Mass at the Mark Coogan XC Course at Highland Park.
