Wildcats open strong at New England Championships

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The University of New Hampshire women's track and field team opened competition at the New England Championships on Friday afternoon at Bryant University's Track & Turf Complex.

Freshman Olivia Chamberlain (Warnerville, N.Y.) earned a 10th place finish in the long jump with a mark of 17'8, while Savannah Vartabedian (Wilbraham, Mass.) placed 15th at 17'2.25. Mia Taranko (Saco, Maine) and Meline Almasian (Westford, Mass.) placed 17th and 18th, respectively in the event with jumps of 17'0.75 for the 'Cats.

Junior Sarah Williams (Dover, N.H.) recorded a throw of 171'7 in the hammer, which was good for a 10th place finish for the Wildcats, while junior Danielle Heine (Waverly, Pa.) registered an 11th place finish in the pole vault at 11'3.75.

Senior Lauren Quann (Pictou, Nova Scotia) was tied for 13th in the high jump with a mark of 5'3.

The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, May 14th in the final day of action at the New England Championships.
