'Cats Finish Fourth at Middlebury Carnival

Schulz’ second-place finish in men’s 20K free leads Wildcats
Vermont won the carnival with 1,034 points, followed by Middlebury (865 points), Dartmouth (734), UNH (653) and Colby (564) to round out the Top-5.

At Rikert, Schulz crossed the line in 52 minutes, 4.2 seconds –7.5 seconds behind race winner Jacob Nystedt of UVM (51:56.7) -- for 47 points. Sophomore Seth Wyatt (Bozeman, Mont.) claimed ninth place (54:41.8, 31 points), and freshman Roger Anderson (Golden Valley, Minn.) finished 11th (54:48.0, 30 points). UNH finished third (108 points) in the race, behind Vermont (120) and Middlebury (112).
On the women's side, freshman Lisa Nystedt (Stockholm, Sweden) was the top Wildcat with an 11th-place finish (47:53.8) in the 15K free for 30 points. Sophomore Alice House (Madison, Wis.) notched 15th place (49:01.3, 28 points) and sophomore Lea Stabeak Wenaas (Oslo, Norway) took 22nd (49:12.6, 24 points).
At Middlebury Snow Bowl, Meisen recorded a ninth-place finish in giant slalom (2 minutes, 3.55 seconds) for a team-high 33 points. Solbakken's 10th-place time of 2:03.57 netted 31 points, and sophomore Peder Nersnaes (Oslo, Norway) finished in 14th place (2:03.81, 27 points). With points doubled, the Wildcats took third place with 91 points, behind Middlebury (126) and UVM (122).
Senior Lisa Olsson (Stockholm, Sweden) headlined the Wildcat women's GS lineup by taking 18th place in 2:09.28 (25 points). Freshman Gaia Palamara (Verona, Italy) placed 20th (2:09.37, 23 points), and senior Fanny Sanderberg (Oslo, Norway) clocked in at 2:09.69 for 21st place (22 points).
NEXT UP
•The alpine team will compete in giant slalom at Middlebury Snow Bowl on Sunday in a makeup race from the Feb. 11 canceled GS at the Dartmouth Carnival. The race will count for NCAA qualifying but not for EISA points.
•UNH plays host to the 2022 EISA Championships/NCAA East Regional Championships on Feb. 25-26. Jackson XC serves as the site for the Nordic competition, and the alpine races are slated for Mittersill.
