Taranko Records Two Wins In Dual Meet Loss at Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Sophomore Mia Taranko (Saco, Maine) led the University of New Hampshire women's track & field team with a pair of individual victories, but the Wildcats were edged 87-76 by the University of Vermont in Sunday afternoon's meet at Gardner-Collins Indoor Track.
Taranko recorded the top effort in the long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 7.50 inches that she set in the third of six rounds. She also bested the field in the 55m with a time of 7.65 seconds.
Senior Zakiya Scott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led a 1-through-4 sweep of the 400-meter dash with a time of 1 minute, 2.90 seconds. She was followed across the finish line by sophomore Kat McCullough (Silver Spring, Md.; 1:04.55), freshman Kaitlin Lennox (Hampton Falls, N.H.; 1:05.12) and senior Sarah Fudger (South Hadley, Mass.; 1:07.12).
Junior Violet Sullivan (Brentwood, N.H.) and senior Victoria Dean (Laconia, N.H.) took the top two spots in the 3,000m. Sullivan led the way in 10:51.18 and Dean was next at 11:31.45.
Senior Lauren Quann (Pictou, Nova Scotia) won the high jump as the only competitor to clear 5-5.
Senior Saige Tudisco (Haverhill, Mass.) won a photo finish in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.12 seconds, just .02 ahead of the UVM runner-up.
Sophomore Elizabeth Martell (Essex Junction, Vt.) was the fastest runner in the 500m with a clocking of 1:17.09 in section 3.
Sophomore Emma York (Penacook, N.H.) cruised to victory in the 1,000m and crossed the finish line in 3:03.66.
Junior Taylor Nydam (Hampton Falls, N.H.) tied for first place in the pole vault with a mark of 10-6.25.
UNH's quartet of freshman Autumn Agri (Stratham, N.H.), Scott, sophomore Natalie Fraser (Gilford, N.H.) and McCullough combined to win the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:19.43.
Fraser took second place in the 55m at 7.85 seconds. She was the top 'Cat in the 300m at fourth place with a time of 43.54.
Senior Savannah Vartabedian (Wilbraham, Mass.) edged Tudisco for third place in the long jump at 16-9.25; Tudisco's best mark was 16-6.50.
Freshman Claire Ronan (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) was the fastest of three Wildcats in the 800m with a third-place time of 2:27.77.
New Hampshire returns to action Feb. 19 with a home dual meet against UMass Lowell at Paul Sweet Oval in the Field House. The America East Championships are Feb. 25-26 in Boston.
