Wildcats Take Season Opener Against Vermont at Home, 99-67

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire women's track and field team posted a 99-67 season opening win against Vermont on Sunday afternoon at Paul Sweet Oval.
Senior Sarah Williams (Dover, N.H.) earned the win in the shot put with a throw of 44'5.25", while senior Cailey Archer (Berthoud, Colo.) took home the top spot in the 1000 meter run with a mark of 3:02.61.
Freshman Makena Lee (Northwood, N.H.) posted a first-place finish in the pole vault with a jump of 11'5.75" in the first meet of her collegiate career for the Wildcats.
"We are always happy when we win as team, it was great to get our first competition after great preseason of training," mentioned UNH head coach Robert Hoppler. "We had a nice mix of newcomers and experience athletes contribute over the course of the day. Sarah Williams continues to be an amazing field athlete for the University of New Hampshire over the course of her career."
Junior Natalie Fraser (Gilford, N.H.) earned the victory in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:00.72. Senior Meline Almasian (Westford, Mass.) took home the top spot in the 55 meter dash (7.47).
Sophomore Jill Walker (Simi Valley, Calif.) earned a first-place mark in the mile run with a time of 4:55.39, while Emma York (Penacook, N.H.) and Kaitlin Lennox (Hampton Falls, N.H.) earned wins in the 800 (2:24.51) and 500 (1:23.61) meter runs, respectively.
Sophomore Olivia Chamberlain (Warnerville, N.Y.) got the victory in the triple jump with a mark of 36'1.25".
Lennox, Fraser, Kaelin Marshall (Westmont, N.J.) and Liliana Cirichella (Troy, N.H.) earned the win in the 4x400 relay with a mark of 4:09.85, while the distance medley relay team comprised of Archer, Hannah Langstaff (Windham, Maine), Lily Doody (Lee, N.H.) and Sarah Morin (Portsmouth, N.H.) earned first-place with a time of 12:29.41 for the 'Cats.
The Wildcats return to action on Friday, December 9 against Northeastern from the Track at New Balance in Boston.
