Almasian and Williams get two wins in the losing effort for the Wildcats
DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire women's indoor track and field team was defeated by Holy Cross, 93-88 on Saturday at Paul Sweet Oval.
Meline Almasian (Westford, Mass.) opened the day with a win in the 55 meters with a time of 7.47 seconds, while Nicole Yeomans (Foxborough, Mass.) took home the victory in the 800 meters (2:16.17). Almasian also took first in the long jump with a mark of 17'5.5.
"Obviously we were excited to have our first home meet since the onset of COVID, it's been a long two years, it was great to see the teams compete in the Paul Sweet Oval," said UNH head coach Robert Hoppler. "I thought we competed hard and competed well, obviously some the highlights were Sarah Williams is continuing with her great season winning both the shot and the weight, which was the second furthest mark ever at UNH. Other events that stood out were Danielle Heine as the pole vault runner up, our middle distance athletes kind of kept up that UNH tradition of excellence and they raced very well."
Freshman Hannah Langstaff (Windham, Maine) posted a time of 3:04.11 in the 1000 meters, which was good for a first-place effort for the Wildcats, while Lauren Dean (Gilmanton Iron Works, N.H.) got the victory in the one mile run (5:02.80).
The 'Cats took home first in the 4x800 relay with a mark of 9:32.09 comprised of Dean, Cailey Archer (Berthoud, Colo.), Langstaff and Yeomans.
Sarah Williams (Dover, N.H.) notched wins in the shotput (43'0.5) and weight throw (58'1.75).
The Wildcats return to action on Friday, January 28 at the John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University.
