9/4/2021 6:12:00 PM | Field Hockey
BOSTON – Junior goalkeeper Jemma Woods (Frimley, England) matched her career high of 11 saves, but the University of New Hampshire field hockey team was defeated 3-0 by third-ranked University of Iowa on Saturday afternoon at Boston University's New Balance Field.
Woods, the reigning America East Defensive Player of the Week, made nearly half of her saves in the third quarter, when she stopped five shots.
Iowa goalie Grace McGuire was credited with two saves, while Esme Gibson, Ellie Holley and Lokke Stribos each scored a goal for the Hawkeyes.
UNH is now 1-3 and Iowa remains unbeaten at 3-0.
"Similar to the Louisville game last week, our goal was to step up to the challenge of their depth and ability and I thought we did a good job," UNH head coach Robin Balducci said. "We held them for a bit after they scored an early goal. We tightened things up.
"Our goal these two weekends was to challenge ourselves at a high level for the return down the road and prepare us as we get ready for conference play," Balducci added.
