RESULTS
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Freshman Jill Walker (Simi Valley, Calif.) led the Wildcats with a sixth-place finish as the University of New Hampshire women's cross country team opened the season at the Friar Invitational on the 5K Mark Coogan XC Course at Highland Park. Providence (18 points) won the meet, while New Hampshire (54 points) was second and Stony Brook (67 points) was third.
"Obviously it was a competitive meet with Providence being nationally ranked and Stony Brook being a consistent top team in America East," said UNH head coach Robert Hoppler. "I am happy with the way we competed and it was a good opening meet and a good place to start. We are looking forward to improving as the season goes along, as well as looking forward to the hard work required to be a successful cross country team."
Walker had an outstanding collegiate debut with a time of 18:17.12. Freshman Addison Cox (Northwood, N.H.) also had a strong debut as she placed ninth with a time of 18:39.49.
