DURHAM, N.H. -- Junior guard Héléna Delaruelle (Enghien-Les-Bains, France) of the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team recently competed for Team France at the FIBA European U20 Challengers Cup in July.
Team France won the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record at the Konya Sports Complex in Konya, Turkey. Delaruelle played in all five games. In the opening round game, the Wildcat guard had six points, nine rebounds and four assists. In 10.8 minutes per game at the tournament, she averaged 3.0 points per game, 3.0 rebounds per game, 2.0 assists per game, to go along with a 50% field goal percentage.
"Playing for the National team was a dream coming true," said Delaruelle. "Being able to play and win the tournament with an incredible group of women, the coaching staff while carrying the colors of my country is a true blessing and life changing. I am thankful and grateful for all the support and helped I have had over the years from Paris to UNH, everyone has contributed to this accomplishment. I really want to thank my Mom, Dad, Brother, Sister, coaches, players, family and friends. Without their constant support and love I would probably live a different journey. And it's just the beginning of my work."
Delaruelle started all 20 games to extend her consecutive career starts to 49 this past season for the Wildcats. She averaged 7.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 31.8 minutes per game. UNH's rebounding leader was also the Wildcats' leader in defensive rebounding (4.0 per game) and second in offensive rebounding (2.1 per game).
