BOSTON -- Senior Miranda Bacon (Scotia, N.Y.) of the University of New Hampshire swimming team as named America East Swimmer of the Week, which was announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.
Bacon set a Forbush Natatorium pool record in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:21.72 last Friday in the 190-109 victory at Vermont. The previous record was held by Laura Gorinksi (2:21.73) of Navy, set on January 16, 2010. Bacon also picked up a victory in the 200 IM with a 2:07.90 mark in the Wildcats third win of the season.
"Miranda did a great job last weekend at Vermont breaking the pool record in the 200 breast," said UNH Head Coach Josh Willman. "We all shared in her excitement, as she ended her dual meet career going out in style as a senior. Miranda is a terrific competitor and we can't wait to see what she does at the America East Championships in two weeks."
She wins the award for the first time in her Wildcat career. Bacon is the third different Wildcat to earn Female Swimmer of the Week honors this season.
The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, April 17 for the opening day of diving events at the America East Championships hosted by Binghamton University. The UNH swim team will compete at the America East Championships the following weekend at NJIT from April 23-25.
