'Cats freshmen open strong at AE Diving Championships

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Freshmen Kiera Moon (Middleton, Mass.) and Hannah Weatherby (Newtown, Conn.) of the University of New Hampshire swimming and diving team competed on the opening day of the America East Diving Championships on Saturday afternoon at the Patricia A. Saunders Aquatic Center on the campus of Binghamton University.
Moon placed fourth in the 3-meter dive with a score of 224.10, while Weatherby earned a score of 179.70, both of which were personal bests for the two Wildcat divers.
"The two freshman divers held their own among the six teams competing," said UNH head diving coach Cecelia Tarr. "Hannah got off to a little bit of a slow start, but she was able to focus back in and perform well. Keira showed consistency and strong technique throughout. I hope their success from today carries over tomorrow. I'm anticipating the competition to be tighter, but both divers can hold their spot if they show the same focus and energy as they did today."
UNH returns to action in the final day of the diving championships on Sunday, April 18 at 10:15am for the one-meter dive. The meet will be once against streamed on AmericaEast.tv.
