Boutilier Records 42 Saves in 4-1 Loss at #4 Northeastern

BOSTON – Senior goaltender and captain Ava Boutilier (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island) recorded a season-high 42 saves, but the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team was defeated 4-1 by fourth-ranked Northeastern University at Matthews Arena on Friday night.
Boutilier made 16 saves in the first period, followed by 19 in the second and seven more in the third to finish with 42; two of the goals against her were scored on the power play.
UNH's goal was scored by freshman Kira Juodikis (LaSalle, Ontario).
NU goalie Aerin Frankel stopped 12 shots, including six in the second period. Chloe Aurard (two goals), Maureen Murphy (one goal, one assist) and Alina Mueller (two assists) recorded multiple points for the Huskies.
UNH moves to 3-7-2 overall and 3-7-1 in Hockey East. NU improved to 11-2-1, 10-2-1.

FIRST PERIOD
- Northeastern recorded a 17-2 shot advantage in the opening 20 minutes to build a 1-0 lead.
- Mueller corralled an outlet pass at the blue line, skated down the right circle and shifted to the slot and snapped a low shot that Boutilier stopped with her left leg pad at 4:37 to keep the game scoreless.
- That was one of 10 saves by Boutilier in the opening nine minutes of the game.
- Aurard finished a 3-on-2 rush when her wrister from the slot sailed inside the right post. Kate Holmes, with the centering pass from the left wing, and Megan Carter set up the tally that gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead at 8:32.
- In the 14th minute, senior Paige Rynne (Ancaster, Ontario) blasted a shot from the high slot that Frankel redirected away.
SECOND PERIOD
- Northeastern scored one more goal in the middle stanza with a 20-6 shot advantage in that 20 minutes.
- NU opened the period with 1:39 remaining on the first power play of the game and needed just 21 seconds to extend the advantage to 2-0. Kate Holmes drove through the right circle and her pass through the crease found Aurard alone at the left doorstep for the goal.
- Sophomore Nicole Kelly (Brantford, Ontario) led a 2-on-1 rush down the slot and snapped a wrist shot over the crossbar at 4:39.
- UNH went on its first power play of the night at 11:13 but did not record a shot on goal with the skater advantage.
- The Huskies returned to the power play at 13:30, but Boutilier made two saves to keep the 'Cats within two goals.
THIRD PERIOD
- NU had a 9-5 shot advantage in the final frame.
- New Hampshire began the third period with a 5-on-3 power play for 23 seconds, but the 'Cats were held without a shot during that two-skater advantage as well as for the remaining 5-on-4 power play.
- Andrea Renner extended NU's lead to 3-0 at 9:33 when her shot from the left endline deflected off Boutilier into the cage.
- Juodikis scored off a rebound just 50 seconds later to once again make it a two-goal game, 3-1, at 10:23. Sophomore Brianna Brooks (Whitby, Ontario) skated down the slot and her high shot was blocked by Frankel, but Juodikis trailed down the slot and chipped a shot into the net. Kelly was credited with the secondary assist.
- NU scored its second power-play goal of the night on Murphy's goal at 14:08.
- UNH had another power play chance at 18:11, and one minute later a blast by sophomore Brianna Legros (New Liskeard, Ontario) was stopped by Frankel.
- Frankel turned aside Brooks' shot with 46 seconds remaining to deny the Wildcats on their last shot of the game.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- Northeastern finished with a 46-13 shot advantage.
- UNH went 0-for-4 on the power play while NU was 2-for-4.
- The Wildcats had a 28-23 edge in the faceoff circle.
- Brooks won 12 of 18 faceoffs and senior captain Lauren Martin (Cambridge, Ontario) was 6-for-8.

- UNH blocked 25 shot attempts with senior captain Maddie Truax (Gardner, Mass.), who entered the weekend atop the Hockey East leaderboard in that stat, leading all skaters with eight blocks.
- Classmate Emily Rickwood (Brantford, Ontario) blocked six shots.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Boutilier surpassed her previous season high of 39 saves established Oct. 15 at nationally-ranked Boston College.
- This marked the third time in her career Boutilier eclipsed 40 saves.
- She set her career high of 45 saves Oct. 20, 2019 at Northeastern and matched that Nov. 23, 2019 at Harvard University.
- Juodikis has recorded a point in 7 of 10 games this season, including six of the last seven.
- She has scored a goal in four of her last five games.
- Juodikis, who missed both of last weekend's games vs. Merrimack College, has a team-high seven goals and is tied for the team lead with 10 points.
- Brooks is now tied for the team lead in assists with six, and she ranks third in points with nine.
- Kelly has an assist in two consecutive games and has recorded three points in the last four games.
SERIES NOTEBOOK
- UNH has a 79-62-10 lifetime record against Northeastern, but the Huskies have a 15-0-1 edge the past 16 meetings.
