Wildcats lead CCSU after Day 1, 116-70 in home opener

DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire women's swimming and diving team took a 116-70 lead in the home opener against Central Connecticut State on Friday afternoon at Swasey Pool.
UNH won seven of 10 events on the day against the Blue Devils, which included wins in both of the team relays.
The 'Cats opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:38.14 led by Chiara Pradissitto (Milan, Italy), Abby McKinney (Westfield, N.J.), Maddie Fritz (Lansdale, Pa.) and Cate Wardinski (Burke, Va.).
Freshman Kiersten Donnelly (Pottstown, Pa.) picked up the win with a mark of 59.85 in the 100 back, while junior Jamy Lam (Honolulu, Hawaii) took home the top spot in the 100 breast (1:04.94).
Senior Anna Metzler (Regensburg, Germany) won the 200 fly at 2:02.07 and Hannah Devine (Hamilton, N.J.) earned the top spot in the 1000 free (10:42.84).
"We are off to a good start today, the divers did a nice job sweeping 3M and we had some solid swims from both upperclassmen and the freshmen," said UNH head coach Josh Willman. "We are looking forward to tomorrow's events and finishing the weekend strong."
Keira Moon (Middleton, Mass.), Hannah Weatherby (Newtown, Conn.) and Emma Clarke (Avon, N.Y.) finished in the top three spots in the 3-meter dive in the evening with 218.55, 200.77 and 200.02 points, respectively.
UNH also picked up a win in the final event of the day, the 400-yard medley relay with a mark of 3:52.01 comprised of Metzler, Lum, McKinney and Olivia Stille (Stockholm, Sweden).
The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, October 30 in the final day of action against Central Connecticut State. Meet time from Swasey Pool is 10 a.m.
