DURHAM, N.H. – Senior captain Bloem van den Brekel (Eindhoven, Netherlands) scored two goals, including the game winner in overtime, to lift the University of New Hampshire field hockey team to Sunday afternoon's 3-2 victory against Columbia University at Memorial Field.
van den Brekel tied the score, 2-2, with 5:04 remaining in regulation and lifted the Wildcats to victory with 21 seconds left in the first overtime session. Classmate Tia Raspante (Sandwich, Mass.) scored UNH's other goal.
Junior goalkeeper Jemma Woods (Frimley, England) was credited with three saves and she did not have to make a stop in the extra session.
Columbia was led offensively by Ellie Decker (one goal, one assist). Goalie Alexa Conomikes was credited with 11 saves, including one in OT, and Emily Maclean made a defensive save.
UNH extended its winning streak to three games to improve to 6-10 overall. Columbia is now 7-7.
"Obviously today's game was an emotional day, a meaningful day for our seniors, and to have Tia and Bloem kind of forge our comeback was just how you would write up the script," UNH head coach Robin Balducci said.

MORE FROM HEAD COACH ROBIN BALDUCCI
"Bloem has been amazing in her career and carries the team, carries a lot of weight on her shoulders for the team, so for her to finish today off that way with the tying goal and then the winning goal and the type of goal she scored was highlight kind of scoring."
"I think our seniors were the reason that a game like today goes the way it does where we stay in it, we come back and finish it off. We don't do that kind of thing without great leadership and that speaks volumes for these six. They're impressive leaders both on and off the field and I couldn't be happier for them. Such an exciting way to win."
