Delaruelle Scores Career-High 12 Points in 80-44 Loss at BC

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Héléna Delaruelle (Enghien-les-Bains, France) scored a career-high 12 points as the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team opened the 2020-21 season with an 80-44 loss to Boston College at Conte Forum on Wednesday afternoon.
Delaruelle also finished with six rebounds, two assists and a steal in playing a game-high 33 minutes.
BC was led by Taylor Soule (22 points, 12 rebounds).
It was the season opener for both teams, thereby marking the first game as UNH head coach for Kelsey Hogan.
UNH is scheduled to return to action Nov. 27 (2 p.m.) at Bryant University.

FIRST QUARTER
• There were two lead changes and two ties in the opening five minutes.
• BC scored the first two points of the game and Delaruelle's jumper tied the score, 2-2, at 8:35.
• The Eagles responded with a 3-pointer, but then Amanda Torres (Hudson, N.H.) hit a pair of free throws and the first career points scored by Adara Groman (Hopkinton, Mass.) gave the Wildcats a 6-5 lead at 7:28.
• BC closed the quarter on a 15-4 run to take a 20-10 lead.
SECOND QUARTER
• Boston College pushed the advantage to 23 points, 43-20, at 1:59.
• UNH ended the quarter with a 7-0 run -- on a pair of Torres foul shots, Groman's 3-pointer and a jumper by Delaruelle – to close within 43-27.
THIRD QUARTER
• BC's Makayla Dickens opened the second-half scoring with a 3-pointer and the 'Cats never got closer than 17 points the rest of the way.
• The Eagles outscored UNH 24-5 in the third quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER
• UNH was outscored 13-12 in the final 10 minutes.
UNH NOTEBOOK
• Brooke Kane (Derry, N.H.) matched her career high of five rebounds.
• Torres finished with 10 points, three rebounds, two assists and a team-high three steals.
• Torres and Delaruelle shared the team lead in assists with two.
• Groman was in the starting lineup for her collegiate debut. She recorded five points and four rebounds in 30 minutes.
• Paige Cote (Sanford, Maine), also making her collegiate debut, grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and also scored four points in 14 minutes.
• Cote and Faith Bonett (Moorestown, N.J.) each blocked one shot.
• Bonett also pulled down five boards in just seven minutes.
• Bella Stuart (Clifton Park, N.Y.), another freshman, finished with five points and one rebound in 19 minutes.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• UNH shot 26.7 percent from the floor, including 12.5 percent (2-16) from 3-point range.
• In comparison, BC made 40 percent of its field goal attempts and that included 35.3 percent (6-17) from behind the 3-point arc.
• The Eagles recorded a 50-40 edge on the glass.
• BC converted 23 UNH turnovers into 24 points. The 'Cats scored eight points off 14 Eagles' turnovers.
• The home team had a 23-5 edge in second-chance points with an 18-13 edge in offensive rebounds.
• BC had the scoring edge both in the paint (38-22) and on fastbreaks (17-6).
SERIES NOTEBOOK
• UNH has an 8-19 overall record against Boston College. The Eagles have won each of the past nine matchups.
