Martinez Records 22 Points, 15 Rebounds in 77-63 Win at CCSU

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- Jayden Martinez (Cibolo, Texas) recorded 22 points and 15 rebounds to lead the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team to Tuesday night's 77-63 victory against Central Connecticut State University at Detrick Gym.
Martinez recorded his first double-double of the season and third of his career with personal bests in both points and rebounds. Nick Guadarrama (Newington, Conn.) tallied 13 points and 10 rebounds to record his third double-double of the season, fifth career.
Marque Mautlsby (Raleigh, N.C.) matched his career high of 15 points and Sean Sutherlin (New Brighton, Minn.) also netted 15 points. Maultsby also finished with a personal-best six assists, while Sutherlin had five.
UNH improved to 3-2 overall while CCSU moved to 0-5.
UP NEXT: New Hampshire ends its stretch of four consecutive road games Nov. 23 (2 p.m.) at James Madison University.

FIRST HALF
* Both teams struggled in the opening five minutes as CCSU led 6-2 at the first media timeout (at 14:35).
* Trailing 9-2, the Wildcats closed within three points, 9-6, on Maultsby's 3-pointer from the right wing and one Sutherlin foul shot.
* The Blue Devils extended their advantage to 17-9 on a 3-pointer at 9:55.
* UNH answered with an 18-4 run to build a 27-21 lead. Maultsby ignited the run with another 3-pointer, and then a pair of 3's by Guadarrama lifted the Wildcats within 19-17 at 7:20. Following a pair of CCSU foul shots, Martinez hit a pull-up jumper in the lane and a 3-pointer to give New Hampshire its first lead of the game, 22-21, at 6:02. Maultsby hit a driving layup in transition, and then Sutherlin's 3-ball at 4:38 extended UNH's run to 10 consecutive points.
* Maultsby's third 3-pointer of the half and another 3-ball, this time by Josh Hopkins (Greensboro, N.C.), pushed the margin to 35-28 with 1:38 on the clock.
* CCSU hit a layup in the closing seconds to advance the score to 35-30 heading into halftime.
SECOND HALF
* Leading 41-37, New Hampshire scored 11 consecutive points -- Martinez hit a 3-pointer and a layup during the run, which was capped by a Mark Carbone (Wethersfield, Conn.) transition layup -- to extend the advantage to 52-37 at 9:45.
* CCSU stopped the run with a 3-pointer, but the Wildcats went on a 7-0 to build a 59-40 lead.
* Hopkins' 3-ball reestablished a 19-point lead, 66-47, at 5:23.
* The Blue Devils trimmed the deficit to 11 points, 72-61, with 1:33 remaining, but UNH made 5 of 6 free throws in the last 63 seconds to secure the win.
UNH NOTEBOOK
* Martinez made 8 of 13 field goals, including 2-for-6 on 3-pointers, and was a perfect 4 of 4 at the foul line for 22 points. He also had two assists and two steals.
* Sutherlin played all 40 minutes. He finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, five assists, two blocks and a steal.
* Guadarrama played 39 minutes. He made 5 of 9 FGs, including 3 of 6 on 3-pointers.
* Maultsby's line was 15 points, five rebounds, six assists, one steal and a block. He shot 5-for-10 from the floor, including 3 of 6 on 3's.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
* UNH led for 26 minutes, including the entire second half.
* After a cold shooting start, the Wildcats finished with a .435 field goal percentage that included 40.7% from 3-point range.
