UNH Signs Seven Recruits to an NLI

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire field hockey program, led by head coach Robin Balducci, announced Monday that seven student-athletes have signed a National Letter of Intent to become Wildcats in the 2020 season.
The newest members of the UNH field hockey family are Reagan Calcari, (St. Louis, Mo.), Gigi Fay (Lancaster, Mass.), Carolyn Garofoli (Lynnfield, Mass.), Emma Halderman (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), Lily Rothwell (Lynnfield, Mass.), Mari Shea (Hampstead, N.H.) and Olivia Watson (Easton, Pa.).
Calcari is a senior and two-sport athlete at the Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School. While there, Calcari played in three consecutive Missouri State championship games and won it all as a senior. She was named All-Metro League First Team three times, as well as being selected to the Missouri Senior All-Star Game. Calcari also plays for Gateway Field Hockey, where she won a Regional Club Championship and had three top-10 finishes at the National Club Championship tournament.
Calcari's academic honors include NFHCA National Academic Squad, Princeton University Book Award, Le Grand Concours National French Exam Honor and World Language Award.
Fay is a senior at Nashoba Regional High School. During her four year at NRHS, Fay was a four-year field hockey and lacrosse starter, and she has served as captain for both teams. In her junior and senior years, the midfielder led the Nashoba Regional the Division I Central Massachusetts field hockey championship. The team went on to a state runner-up finish when she was a junior and was a state semifinalist her senior year.
In addition, Fay was a two-time Central Mass. Field hockey All-Star as well as a Super Sixty All-Star Game participant. she was also a Mid Watch B All-Star as well as the Mid Watch B Most Valued Player of the Year. Fay played club hockey with Cape Ann.
Garofoli is a senior at Lynnfield High School, where she has lettered in field hockey, ice hockey and track & field. As a senior captain, she led the Lynnfield field hockey team to the D2 North title, and she was named a Cape Ann League First Team All-Star for the second consecutive year. She played both midfield and back.
Garofoli has also competed in the USA field hockey Futures program and plays club hockey with North East Elite.
Halderman, a senior at Lakeland High School, earned All-State honors as a senior midfielder. She is a two-time selection to the All-Section, All-Elite and All-League teams. She led Lakeland to a state title three of four years, and the team finished as runner-up that one other year – her junior season.
Halderman was a senior captain this year after being part of four section and region championship teams along with three Class B titles and one runner-up finish in 2018. She was named to the 2019 Max Field Hockey Northeast Region Players to Watch and was named to LoHud's 2019 Elite 11 for Section I Players in New York.
Halderman has also competed in the USA field hockey Futures program and plays for Hudson Valley FHC out of Westchester, N.Y.
Rothwell is a classmate of Garofoli at Lynnfield High School, where she accumulated 80 career points on 58 goals and 22 assists. Rothwell was the Pioneers' leading scorer and was named a Cape Ann League First Team All-Star as a senior captain, when she led them to the D2 North championship. The forward was also selected to the Best of 60. Rothwell received league All-Star recognition as a sophomore and junior.
Rothwell is a USA Futures participant and plays club hockey at Seacoast United. She also lettered in both indoor and outdoor track & field at Lynnfield.
Shea, a senior at Pinkerton Academy, earned the New Hampshire Division I Offensive Player of the Year award, as well as a spot on the New Hampshire All-State Team, this fall. The midfielder is also a member of the Northeast Elite Club, where she competed in the National Club Championship and National Indoor Tournament three times. Off the field, Shea won the New Hampshire Patriots Pen Writing Award and was a member of the New Hampshire Scholar Honor Roll in high school.
Shea has also competed in the USA field hockey Futures program and plays club hockey with North East Elite.
Watson, a senior at Easton Area High School, spent her high school career ending droughts for the Red Rovers field hockey program. Watson led her team to the state playoffs as a sophomore to mark the first appearance in the tournament in 28 years. The midfielder/back also led the team to second place in District XI and the state quarterfinals as a senior captain in 2019, which was the best finish since 1989. To date, her senior-year accolades include EPC Second Team.
Watson's previous accolades include two-time All-State Honorable Mention, Lehigh Valley All-Area Team, All-State Academic Team and making the High Honor Roll every year.
In addition to her high school accomplishments, Watson has competed at Futures Level I and was a member of the XCalibur field hockey club and the Mystic Hockey Club. Most recently, she led the XCalibur U19 team to first place in both the indoor and outdoor competitions.
These seven student-athletes join a UNH field hockey program that advanced to the America East Championship tournament for the 13th consecutive year in 2019. This year's conference Rookie of the Year was a UNH Wildcat, and the 'Cats defeated two nationally-ranked teams in '19.
