Split Squad Competes at BU, Takes First at Home

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's track & field team won its second straight home meet, taking the tri-meet with Maine and Vermont on Saturday at the Paul Sweet Oval.
The Wildcats were led by senior Thomas Chant (North Conway, N.H.) who took first in the 55 meter dash in 6.68 seconds and the 200m dash in 23.99 seconds. Chant was one of five individual winners for the Wildcats in seven events.
Junior Joseph Hook (Rockaway, N.J.) took first in the 400m run, with a time of 52.25 seconds. In the 3000m run, senior Dean Yost (Canton, Conn.) secured a the victory with a finishing time of 8:49.24.
In the 55m hurdles, sophomore transfer Michael Monahan (Tewksbury, Mass.) took first in 7.95 seconds. His preliminary time of 7.85 seconds was a new personal best in the event.
In the long jump, sophomore Jordan Buckmire (Nashua, N.H.) took first with a distance of 21 feet, 0.5 inches. And it was another sweep in the throws as Zachary Astle (Newbury, N.H.) won the shot put with a throw of 52', and the weight throw with a distance of 52'0.5". In the weight, Edward Speidel (Dover, N.H.) took second with a throw that went 52'0.5".

- Senior William Ulrich (Mineola, N.Y.) was the top finisher for the 'Cats, taking 11th in 4:04.55, a new personal best.
- Fifth-year Timothy Kenefick (Guildford, Conn.) took 25th with a new personal best time of 4:12.08.
- Senior Brett Hoerner (Manchester, N.H.) finished 29th in 4:12.97.
- Sophomores James Wilkes (Concord, N.H.) and Aidan Sullivan (Nashua, N.H.) took 40th and 41st, respectively, with a tight finish that was a personal best for both athletes. Wilkes' time was 4:15.92, Sullivan's was 4:15.99.
In the 800m run:
- Fifth-year Thomas Harter (Hampton, N.H.) finished 23rd, with a new personal best time of 1:53.34.
- Junior Aaron Dobe (Contoocook, N.H.) took 28th in 1:53.82.
- Junior Matthew Adams (Concord, N.H.) finished 45th in 1:55.45.
