DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire field hockey program, led by 27th-year head coach Robin Balducci, has announced that Christina Hathaway (Norfolk, Mass.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Wildcats' program in the 2018 season.
"We are excited about Christina joining our program," Balducci said. "She led a very successful high school team during her career at King Philip High School. We are looking forward to her athletic ability creating an impact this fall."
Hathaway was a four-year starter at King Philip Regional, where has also been a standout in both basketball and lacrosse, and was captain of all three teams as a senior. Splitting time as a midfielder and back, she was the second-leading scorer on the team – and ranked sixth in the league – with 12 goals and 11 assists and led the Warriors to the D1 South Sectional championship.
Following her outstanding senior season, Hathaway was named Hockomock League MVP and All-Star as well as Hockomocksports.com Player of the Year and First Team. Her other accolades included Max Field Hockey All-New England Region Second Team, Sun-Chronicle All-Star, Boston Globe All-Scholastic and Boston Herald All-Scholastic.
Hathaway was named a Hockomock All-Star and Hockomocksports.com Second Team as a sophomore and junior.
Hathaway is a legacy Wildcat. Her mother, Elizabeth Lahme Hathaway, was a letterwinner on the UNH field hockey team (1985-88) and her father, John Hathaway, played on the varsity lacrosse team.
In basketball, she was the team's leading rebounder and free throw shooter this past year, and was captain as a junior after also serving as captain for the field hockey team that year. As a lacrosse junior, Hathaway was honored as a Hockomock All-Star, Hockomocksports.com Second Team and team Defense MVP.
Hathaway joins a recruiting class that includes Finn Caron (Hampton, N.H.), Tori Palumbo (Ayer, Mass.) and Rachel Simkevich (Londonderry, N.H.).
New Hampshire advanced to the 2017 America East Championship title game by defeating both Cal and nationally-ranked Albany in overtime.
