Armstrong Scores 1,000th Career Point in 71-56 Win vs. Maine

DURHAM, N.H. – Tanner Leissner (Converse, Texas) scored a team-high 21 points, Iba Camara (Dakar, Senegal) recorded his 10th double-double of the season and Jacoby Armstrong (Dallas, Texas) recorded his 1,000th career point to lead the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team to a 71-56 win against the University of Maine on Thursday night at Lundholm Gym.
Leissner eclipsed 20 points for the 11th time this season. Camara scored 15 points and pulled down 16 rebounds for his third double-double in as many games.
Armstrong, who entered the game with 995 career points, scored six points to become the 33rd UNH Wildcat to reach the 1,000-point milestone.
Evan Horn (Lebanaon, Pa.) netted a career-high 10 points and also pulled down a personal-best six rebounds in his first career start. Elijah Jordan (Orlando, Fla.) had 13 points in 23 minutes off the bench.
Aaron Calixte led Maine with a team-high 16 points. Andrew Fleming contributed 12 points and three blocks.
UNH is now 10-15 overall and 6-5 in America East. Maine fell to 6-20, 3-8.

THE DIFFERENCE
- UNH outscored Maine 47-22 in the second half by shooting 51.7% from the floor and holding the Black Bears to 33.3%.
- Jordan's three-point play at 9:15 of the second half gave the 'Cats a 51-48 lead and New Hampshire led the rest of the way.
- UNH held Maine scoreless the final three minutes of the game to secure the victory.
GAME RECAP
- After a solid start from the Wildcats, who opened the game with a 7-0 run, they missed 6 of their next 8 shots leading to a timeout at 12:51 with Maine in the lead, 12-11.
- A back and forth game remained a one-possession game the next six minutes, until the Black Bears scored five consecutive points to build a 27-21 lead at 5:16.
- Maine closed the first half on a 7-0 run the last 3:30 to take a 34-24 lead into halftime. UNH missed its last 10 field goals before heading into the locker room.
- New Hampshire started the second half on a 16-5 run to take a one-point lead, 40-39, with 13:29 to go in the game.
- There were six lead changes and three ties the next four minutes to push the score to a 48-48 tie at 9:22.
- The Wildcats took a six-point lead with 8:34 remaining on a 3-pointer from Jordan Reed (Lucas, Texas) that capped off a 6-0 spurt.
- Fleming scored four consecutive points to lift Maine within 54-52 at 7:19, but the 'Cats responded with an 8-0 run – six from Camara – to extend the advantage to double digits, 62-52, at 3:52.
- The Wildcats then finished the game on a 9-4 run.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- There were five ties and 12 lead changes in the game.
- There was a 26-point swing the final 17:48 of the game as UNH transformed an 11-point deficit into a 15-point victory.
- UNH recorded a 47-32 rebounding advantage, including 16-3 on the offensive glass that led to a 13-3 edge in second-chance points.
- Leissner scored 21 points by shooting 6-12 (50%) from the field and 8-10 (80%) from the free throw line
- UNH hit 20 of its 27 free throw attempts as a team (74%)
- Jordan shot 5-11 (45%) from the field, including 2-4 (50%) from 3-point range.
- Camara scored 15 points on 5-12 (42%) shooting and 5-6 (83%) from the foul line.
- The Wildcats were effective at shutting down Calixte in the second half. He was 1-5 on FGs and 2-2 at the charity stripe for a total of four second-half points.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Camara increased his school record for career rebounds to 960.
- He also moved into a tie for No. 6 on the career games played list (116).
- Leissner became the all-time leader in minutes played by a UNH Wildcat in the history of the program surpassing Alvin Abreu (2008-12) with a total of 3,868 minutes.
- He is No. 8 on the career games played list with 115.
- Leissner extended his UNH benchmarks for career free throws made (508) and attempted (657).
- Leissner now has 1,856 career points, which is five points away from tying the school record.
- Jacoby Armstrong became the 33rd UNH Wildcat to score 1,000 career points when hit the first of two foul shots at 18:30 of the second half.
- Leissner has been UNH's top scorer in 18 of 25 games this season.
- Camara has been the top rebounder in 17 of 25.
- Reed played all 40 minutes and was the primary defender against Calixte.
