Purrier, ‘Cats Battle In Boston and Durham This Weekend

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire track and field teams return to action this weekend in two meets. The teams will split duty between the Terrier Invitational in Boston, Mass, and a home meet with Maine, Vermont, and Dartmouth.
In Boston, the John Thomas Terrier Classic runs Friday, Jan 26 and Saturday, Jan. 27 while the home meet at Paul Sweet Oval will begin at 11 A.M. Women's events begin Friday afternoon for the Terrier Classic, with field events at 2 P.M. and track events at 1 P.M.
The women's side will see the return of Elinor Purrier (Montgomery, Vt.) who first saw action in the first weekend of the indoor track and field season; her UNH record time in the 3000m run, eight minutes, 55.68 seconds, has stood as the top time in the event since December 2. Purrier will be one of the Wildcats participating in the Terrier Classic.
UP NEXT:
After the split weekend, the Wildcats will travel back to Boston for the New England Indoor Championships hosted by Northeastern. The NE Championships take place Friday and Saturday, Feb. 2 and 3.
LAST TIME OUT:
The women's track and field team came in second to Holy Cross by a team score of 232.5 to 194.5, despite several strong performances from the Wildcats in the relays and jumps.
Three Wildcats reached 5'5" in the high jump, senior Shelby Strickland (Kennebunk, Maine) senior Rachel Morrison (Westwood, Mass.) and senior Tessa Artruc (Livonia, N.Y.).
The 500m run was a one-two finish for the Wildcats, with senior Danielle Gajewski (Danville, N.H.) finishing first in 1 minute, 18.87 seconds and junior Emileigh Glode (Boxborough, Mass.) took second in one minute, 21.44 seconds.
The 'Cats also swept the relays, taking the 4x400 relay in four minutes, 4.88 seconds and the 4x800 in nine minutes, 54.49 seconds. The teams for the relays were:
· 4x400 – Artruc, Emma Checovich (North Hampton, N.H.), Elise Renahan (Atkinson, N.H.) and Jessica Hackett (Dover, N.H.).
· 4x800 – Cayla Barretto (Woburn, Mass.) Hannah Kimball (Atkinson, N.H.), Madeline Brandon (Killingworth, Conn.) and Madeline Quigley (Rowely, Mass.)
Other top performers for the Wildcats were:
· A second place finish in the 400m run by Renahan, finishing in 1:00.74, just 0.69 seconds behind the first place finisher.
· Another second place finish in the mile run by Kimball, who finished in five minutes, 10.30 seconds.
· In the 3000m run, Angelyn Masters (Bangor, Maine) took second with a time of 10:16.57.
· In the 55m hurdles, Checovich finished in second place in 8.36 seconds.
· Senior Kari Murnane (Bryam, N.J.) took second in the pole vault with a 11 foot, 5.75 inch vault.
· In the triple jump, Katherine Nash (Hampton, N.H.) took second with a 33'4" jump.
· Senior Emily Wernig (Gilford, N.H.) took second in the weight throw and shot put with a weight throw distance of 50'0.75" and a shot put distance of 36'0.25". Her weight throw was half an inch shorter than the top throw.
