DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore Shannon Murdock (Exeter, N.H.) turned in one of the best times in the 1500 meter run in school history and sophomore Jessica Hackett (Dover, N.H.) contributed a pair of top finishes in the dashes to lead the University of New Hampshire women's track & field team in a pair of meets this weekend.
Murdock finished the 1500 in 4 minutes, 23.25 seconds at the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University on Friday night. Her time was the third best in America East this season. Only three Wildcat runners – including junior All American Elinor Purrier (Montgomery, Vt.) have ever run faster times in the 1500.
Hackett's win in the 200 meter dash in 25.06 seconds and her third place finish in the 100 meter dash helped UNH to a pair of victories at the George Davis Invitational at UMass Lowell on Saturday.
No. 31 ranked UNH outscored UMass Lowell, 85.50 to 67.50 and outscored Bryant 105-47.
The Wildcats have only one more weekend of competition remaining before they host the America East Championships in Durham on May 6 and 7.
UP NEXT
- Some Wildcats will compete in the Penn Relays that run Thursday through Saturday in Philadelphia.
- Others will be at a Pre-Conference meets at the University of Massachusetts on Saturday.
- Purrier will race in the Championship Mile at the Penn Relays on Saturday.
- She finished second in the mile at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in March.
- UNH will host the America East outdoor track & field championships on May 6 and 7.
RACE RESULTS
At Princeton:
- Junior Danielle Gajewski (Danville, N.H.) ran the 800 in 2:10.52.
- She holds the top 800 time in America East this season at 2:09.86.
- Senior Sarah Keiran (Rowley, Mass.) ran the 3000 meter steeplechase in 10:59.06.
- Keiran's owns the fifth best steeplechase time in the league this season.
At UMass Lowell:
- Junior Emma Checovich (No. Hampton, N.H.) won the 100 hurdles in 15.12 seconds and also finished fifth in the long jump.
- Senior Jeannette Mara (Bedford, N.H.) and junior Tessa Artruc (Livonia, N.Y.) were among four high jumpers who tied for first place.
- Junior Emily Wernig (Gilford, NH.) won the discus with a throw of 132 feet, 9 inches.
- Freshman Alyssa Colbert (Smithfield, R.I.) was second in the discus at 122 feet, 8 inches.
- Junior Kari Murnane (Byram, N.J.) was runnerup in the pole vault at 11 feet, 1.75 inches.
- Senior Cassie Kruse (Hampshire, Ill.) was second in the 800 in 2:15.09.
- Freshman Koryn Joswiakowski (McDonald, Pa.) finished third in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump.
- The team of Checovich, Hackett, sophomore Stephanie DiTraglia (Johnson, R.I.) and Artruc finished second in the 4x100 relay.
WILDCAT NOTES
- Led by Purrier, UNH was ranked No. 31 in the country last week.
- Purrier set a New England Collegiate and UNH record in the steeplechase at 9:43.65 at the Ocean State Invitational in Providence on April 15.
- The time is the best in the country this season.
- The previous school and New England record was Purrier's 9:47.71.
- UNH's ranking put it ahead of schools such as Oklahoma at No. 34, Indiana at No. 35 and Notre Dame at No. 36.
