HIGHLIGHTS
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stony Brook led 4-2 just three minutes into the game before New Hampshire held on for the rest of the opening half. UNH went on a 13-4 run to increase the lead to 15-8 just about halfway through the first half. Dion drilled three 3-pointers in the stretch and Reed and Leissner each finished in the paint. The Wildcats controlled play, eventually pushing the lead to 11 points, 30-19, with under three minutes to go. Five straight points (part of his nine first-half points) from Smith earned the big lead. With time winding down, Smith ran an isolation play from left to right finishing off the glass with the right hand at the buzzer.
Dion opened the second half UNH scoring with a layup in the paint before the Seawolves scored 14 straight points to take a 40-34 lead with 13:16 to go. Woodhouse scored six points in the span. Leissner hit a free throw to inch within one point, 44-43, with 10:06 to go before Stony Brook stretched its lead to nine just three minutes later.
The Wildcats trailed by four with 2:24 to go and Dion was fouled in the paint and hit two free throws to cut it to two points. The scoring stalled for both teams until Leissner was fouled in the paint with 35 seconds to go. He drilled the first one but missed the second one. Woodhouse went down the court and finished in the lane to push the lead back to three points with 10 seconds to go to seal it.
