Leissner, 'Cats Give No. 8 Florida A Scare, 70-63

Wildcats Play Host to American on Tuesday
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Senior forward Tanner Leissner (Converse, Texas) scored 23 points and was tough the entire game as the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team threw a major scare into No. 8 Florida before falling, 70-63, in front of a loud crowd of 9,501 in Exactech Arena on Sunday night.
Leissner added five rebounds and doubled his career high with four assists.
The Wildcats are 1-2 and play America University on Tuesday night at 7 at home in Lundholm Gymnasium.
Florida improved to 3-0. The Gators had won their first two games in routs, over Gardner-Webb, 116-74, and over North Florida, 108-68.
Freshman guard Elijah Jordan (Orlando, Fla.) made four of his six three-point shots to join Leissner in double figures with 12 points.
Senior forward Iba Camara (Dakar, Senegal) led the Wildcats in rebounds with 10 and scored seven points.

UNH returns home to play American University on Tuesday at 7 p.m. American fell to 0-3 with a 71-70 loss at Wagner Saturday.
The Wildcats continue play in the Phil Knight Invitational/PK 80 presented by State Farm next weekend in a pair of games in Nashville. They play Furman on Friday at 1 p.m. and Utah State Saturday at 1 p.m.

HIGHLIGHTS
Led by Leissner, the Wildcats hung with the Gators the entire game. Florida's largest lead was eight points, an advantage the Gators reached first with 3:30 left in the first half.
UNH went on an 12-4 run from there to halftime and a Jordan Reed three-pointer with two seconds left in the half made it 32-32 at the break.
Florida got the lead back to eight at 41-33 with 16 minutes left in the second half.
The Wildcats battled back again and with a couple of three-pointers by Jordan – both on inside-out assists by Leissner – and another trey by sophomore guard John Ogwuche (Makurdi, Nigeria) grabbed the lead at 49-48 with 9:27 left.
Florida pulled away with a couple of baskets. UNH had it down to two points down the stretch and it was still a three-point game at 66-63 on a Leissner jumper with 2:02 to go.
A layup and a couple of foul shots gave the Gators some breathing room.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wildcats played tough defense throughout the game and Florida made only 18 of its 56 field goals (32.1 percent).
The Gators made 31 of their 38 free throw attempts, 16 of 18 in the second half. UNH took only 10 foul shots and made nine of them.
Florida had 31 points off the bench and UNH had nine.
