BALTIMORE - The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team played its last regular season game of the 2017 season at UMBC on Sunday afternoon and despite scoring an early goal, were defeated 3-1 by the Retreivers.

Senior Brooke Murphy (Monson, Mass.) scored in the third minute of the game to give the Wildcats a kick 1-0 lead that would stand until the 72nd minute when UMBC scored three late goals to win the game 3-1.

UNH goalkeeper Morgan Baumgartner (Huntington Beach, Calif.) saw her first action of the season as she started in net for the Wildcats; she made five saves but allowed two goals for her first decision of the season putting her record at 0-1-0. Freshman 'keeper Cam Droste (Lone Tree, Co.) also saw action making one save and allowing one goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Murphy's 10th goal of the season came just three minutes into the game on an impressive pass from Francesca Picicci (North Massapequa, N.Y.) who kicked it backwards over her own head to Murphy, who hit the crossbar and into the net from just five yards out.
The 1-0 lead for the Wildcats stood until the 72nd minute; UMBC striker Erin Stevenson struck three times within the span of about 10 minutes, the first a quick shot off a throw in, the second a header off a long service, and the third a shot from the left side of the box.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

UMBC outshot UNH 19-13 overall, despite UNH having a strong first half with nine shots to four. UMBC had a 15-4 shot advantage in the second.
UMBC held UNH to no shots on goal in the second.
UMBC had two corner kicks to UNH's one in the second half after not taking any in the first.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

The loss was the Wildcats' first since facing Stony Brook on Oct. 8 in New York.
UNH is now 4-5-0 in road games this season.
The Wildcats are 1-3-0 this season when scoring only one goal.

WILDCATS PLAYOFF BOUND:
The Wildcats clinched the #1 seed in the America East Tournament for the first time since 2007. They will face the winner of the Stony Brook at Hartford game this Thursday, Oct. 26. The winner will move on to Bremner Field to face the Wildcats on Sunday, Oct 29 at 2 p.m.
