THE STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
- UNH was selected third in the America East Preseason Coaches' Poll that was released Aug. 9. Hartford and Albany were picked ahead of the Wildcats in the nine-team league.
- UNH opened the season with a 3-0-0 record for the first time since 1991, on their way to their first non-conference winning record since 2005. New Hampshire's 6-3-0 non-conference record is the best in program history.
- The Wildcats' posted a six-game winning streak for just the second time in program history. The last time the Wildcats won six straight was 1988.
- UNH is coming off a conference victory at Hartford last Thursday evening, 2-1. The win was their eighth win in 10 games.
- The Wildcats' 11 wins overall is their highest since 2007, when the Wildcats had an 11-7-2 record.
- The victory at Hartford was UNH's fifth conference win; the last time the Wildcats won five conference games was in 2008, when the 'Cats went 5-3-0 in conference play.
- New Hampshire is undefeated when scoring two or more goals (10-0-0). The 'Cats are also 7-0-1 in home games this season.
- The Wildcats clinched the #1 seed for the first time since 2007, and for the first time in the Welham Era.
- New Hampshire will appear in the America East Playoffs for the fourth consecutive year.
- Seven Wildcats were honored in the America East All-Conference Awards announced on Wednesday. Four players made the first team, one made the second team, two on the all-rookie team, and two on the all-academic team. UNH also claimed two major awards; Goalkeeper of the Year and Coaching Staff of the Year.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
- Senior captain Brooke Murphy (Monson, Mass.), the two-time reigning America East Striker of the Year, has tallied 22 points on 10 goals and two assists this season. Murphy has three game-winning goals this season (Colgate, Northeastern, and Maine). Murphy was named to the America East All-Conference First Team.
- Kaylan Williams (Marion, Ind.) follows behind Murphy in the point total with 11 points (5g, 1a). Williams notched the game-winning goals against Colorado State and conference foe Binghamton. Williams was selected to the America East All-Conference Second Team.
- Junior midfielder Gaby Dorsey (Hubertus, Wis.) has four goals and two assists for 10 points on the season. She scored the game-winning goal at Hartford, and earlier in the season she tallied the game-winner in the season opener against LIU Brooklyn. Dorsey was selected to both the America East All-Conference First Team and the America East All-Academic team.
- Freshman forward Francesca Picicci (North Massapequa, N.Y.) scored her first two career goals against Army in UNH's 2-0 victory. She has seven points on three goals, two assists on the season. This year Picicci was named to the America East All-Rookie Team.
- The defensive unit is anchored by senior Kendra Prince (Ajax, Ontario), who has two assists on the year and was selected to the America East All-Conference First Team.
- Senior goalkeeper and 2017 America East Goalkeeper of the Year Mia Neas (Old Saybrook, Conn.) has tallied an 11-4-1 record so far in her first starting season, after seeing action in only three games prior to this season. She has made 83 saves, for a .865 save percentage, and a conference-leading 0.80 goals allowed average. She has shut out six teams this season (LIU Brooklyn, Army, Northeastern, Vermont, Albany, UMass Lowell).
MURPHY PUTS HER NAME IN THE RECORD BOOKS
- Brooke Murphy has set two new records this season for the UNH women's soccer program.
- The UNH benchmark of 38 career goals was established by Diane McLoughlin, and stood since 1990. Murphy scored her 39th career goal against Northeastern on September 17, 2017 to set the bar higher. She has now set the bar at 43 career goals.
- The record for career points scored was set by Chiara Best in 2004 when she finished her career with 88 points. With an assist against Vermont on September 28, Brooke Murphy surpassed that mark with 89 career points. She currently has 97 career points.
SCOUTING STONY BROOK
- The Seawolves (Stony Brook, N.Y.) come into the playoffs with a 8-10-0 record overall, 4-4-0 in America East play.
- The Seawolves defeated the Hartford Hawks on Thursday evening by a score of 2-0. Goals were scored by Allyson Baner in the first and Christen Cahill in the second.
- Stony Brook is 5-7-0 in away games this season.
- The Seawolves are led by All-Rookie Team member Alyssa Francese, who has a team high 17 points and eight goals, with one added assist. Rachel Florenz follows close behind with 13 points on six goals and one assist.
- America East Rookie of the Year Sofia Manner has started 17 of her 18 appearances in net this season with an 8-9-0 record and four shutouts on the season. She has made 66 saves, and allowing 15 goals for a .815 save% and 0.88 GAA.
