BALTIMORE – Despite a career-high 36 points from junior forward Tanner Leissner (Converse, Texas) the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team (14-8, 5-3 AE) lost a double-overtime thriller 105-103 to UMBC (14-7, 5-3 AE) at RAC Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wildcats led 92-89 after two Leissner free throws, but UMBC's Will Darley hit a desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into a second overtime. UNH raced out to a 99-94 lead with 2:49 left, but the Retrievers went on an 11-4 run to end the game. UMBC sent the game into the first overtime on a layup by Jairus Lyles (28 points) with 20 seconds in regulation.
UNH began the second half on fire from 3-point range, as senior Daniel Dion (Cedar Park, Texas) nailed three while Leissner hit one to spark a 12-4 run that saw the Wildcats lead 52-42 with 16:52 on the clock. Leissner and Camara each had 13 points in a see-saw first half with UNH and UMBC tied at 38 apiece.
The Retrievers scored 24 points off 10 UNH turnovers.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Leissner scored 15 points combined in both overtimes to help keep the Wildcats in the game. He also moved to 13th on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,205 points, bypassing Keith Dickson (1975-79).
- It was Leissner's seventh time this year scoring at least 20 points and third time in his career with more than 30. His previous career high was 31 points, set earlier this season vs. Detroit-Mercy.
- Iba Camara (Dakar, Senegal) notched his sixth double-double of the season with 23 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
- Jaleen Smith (Converse, Texas) hit a runner in the lane late in the first half to claim 11th place on UNH's all-time scoring list, surpassing Billy Pappas (1952-55). Smith now has 1,246 career points and is one point behind Matt Alosa (1994-96) for 10th place.
- Smith flirted with his second career triple-double with 21 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds.
- UNH hadn't played in a double overtime game since Jan. 15, 2011 against Stony Brook in a 64-60 loss.
