Smith Tabbed Top Rookie by America East
Kennedi Smith (The Woodlands, Texas), a freshman outside hitter, was honored as America East Rookie of the Week on Sept. 27. She recorded her first career double-double with 17 kills and 10 digs, both of which are personal bests, in the Sept. 20 match against Northeastern University. The 17 kills led the Wildcats, and with just four errors on 29 attacks, she had a lofty .448 hitting percentage. Smith also contributed two service aces and two blocks.
Quick Hitters
UNH began America East conference play Friday night with a sweep of UMBC (25-19, 25-18, 25-14). The Wildcats are the three-time defending regular-season and tournament champions. New Hampshire went 11-1 in America East last season with a 5-1 mark at home. During the three-year reign, UNH had a 34-4 conference record (.895 win percentage).
UNH vs. Stony Brook
New Hampshire has a 20-14 lifetime record vs. Stony Brook University, and the Wildcats have won each of the last six matchups. Last year in Lundholm Gym (Oct. 17, 2015), the 'Cats recorded a straight-set victory of 25-17, 25-18, 25-13. In the most recent meeting (Nov. 13, 2015), UNH prevailed 3-1 at Pritchard Gymnasium with set scores of 25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 25-18. SBU's most recent win in the series was Oct 4, 2013 (3-2 at home). UNH has defended Durham each of the last 10 matches in Lundholm Gym dating back to Stony Brook's 3-2 win Oct. 12, 2007.

UNH leveled its overall record at 8-8 by winning the America East conference opener against UMBC in straight sets Friday at Lundholm Gym. The Wildcats are now 4-3 at home with a 4-2 mark during its current seven-match homestand. New Hampshire has alternated wins and losses each of the past five matches. Sunday is the only home match the entire month of October. The Wildcats play eight consecutive road matches before playing host to UMass Lowell on Nov. 4.
Friday Flashback
Senior captain Demi Muses (Orangvale, Calif.) recorded her third consecutive double-double with 15 kills and 13 digs, as well as an astronomical .406 hitting percentage, to lead UNH to a 3-0 win vs. UMBC at Lundholm Gym this past Friday. The set scores were 25-19, 25-18, 25-14. Freshman Emily Tanski (Plymouth, Mich.) also had a double-double with 11 kills - on the strength of a .296 hitting percentage - and 12 digs. Gabri Olhava (Mount Prospect, Ill.) was an imposing force at the net with six blocks. The Wildcats recorded an impressive .276 hitting percentage against the Retrievers, who entered the match holding opponents to the lowest hitting percentage in the league (opponents hit .171). UNH's defense held the Retrievers to a .063 hitting percentage, which was well below their previous league-leading mark of .203.
Double Doubles
Freshman Emily Tanski (Plymouth, Mich.) has a team-high seven double-doubles this season. Senior middle blocker Demi Muses (Orangevale, Calif.) has recorded a double-double four of the last five matches and has five in 12 matches.
The Leaderboard
Tanski has a team-high 165 kills but Muses, with 163 kills in 44 sets (15 fewer than Tanski), leads the team at 3.70 kills per set and her .304 attack percentage is also best among Wildcats. Senior setter Keelin Severtson (Delray Beach, Fla.) is atop the assist leaderboard (595) – no other 'Cat has more than 30 assists – as well as the list of service aces with 27. Senior defensive specialist Sara Carlson (Hutchinson, Minn.) is UNH's leader in both digs (198) and digs per set (3.41). Also on the defensive side of the net, Olhava has a team-best 41 blocks.
Conference Call
UNH entered the weekend atop the America East conference leaderboard in kills per set (12.82) and assists per set (11.89). Aslo of note, the Wildcats are No. 2 in digs (16.48/set) and No. 3 in service aces (1.45/set). On the individual leaderboards, Severtson leads the league in service aces per set (0.46) and is second in assists per set (10.39); Muses ranks second in points per set (4.07), hitting percentage (.295) and kills per set (3.61); Carlson is No. 5 in digs per set (3.49), followed by Tanski (7th; 3.12) and Muses (8th; 2.93); in other stats, Tanski is No. 6 in points (3.13/set) and No. 8 in kills (2.75/set); and Olhava ranks eighth in blocks per set (0.81).
She Doesn't Take a Set Off
Tanski is the only Wildcat who has played in all 59 sets. Carlson (58), Severtson (57) and Bowman (55) have also topped 50+ sets played. Muses has played in 44 of 46 sets since missing the first four matches of the season.

Seven of New Hampshire's 15 matches have been decided in straight sets with a record of 4-3. The Wildcats have a 2-5 record in four-set matches and are 2-0 in matches that go the five-set distance.
Stony Brook Scout
Stony Brook University (Stony Brook, N.Y.) enters Sunday's match at UNH with a 4-12 overall record that includes 0-1 in America East and 0-6 on the road. The Seawolves' two-match win streak ended last Friday (Sept. 23) at UMBC, and this past Tuesday SBU lost in straight sets at Sacred Heart. McKyla Brooks leads a quintet of Seawolves with 100-plus kills at 154, and she also has a team-best .308 hitting percentage and 26 blocks. Liz Pulver has 139 kills, followed by Maria Poole at 115 with a second-best .264 hitting percentage. Morgan Kath has amasses 539 assists (8.98 per set) as the director of the SBU attack that has recorded an impressive .202 hitting percentage.
