Vilgrain Scores Twice in Women's Hockey's 6-4 Loss at Boston U.

BOSTON – Cassandra Vilgrain (Calgary, Alberta) scored first-period goals less than five minutes apart to give the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team a 2-0 lead, but Boston University netted five goals in the third period to rally for Saturday afternoon's 6-4 victory at Walter Brown Arena.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Boston University roared back from a 3-1 deficit by outscoring UNH 5-1 in the third period on the strength of a 23-10 shot advantage the last 20 minutes. BU scored a power-play, shorthanded and empty-net goal in the final frame.
- Rebecca Russo scored 12 seconds into the third period and again at 5:54 to tie the score, 3-3.
- BU took its first lead of the game, 4-3, on Sammy Davis' goal at 9:31.
- UNH, which held two-goal leads of 2-0 and 3-1, leveled the score at 4 on a goal by Jonna Curtis (Elk River, Minn.) at 12:12.
- Rebecca Leslie potted her second goal of the game with a shorthanded tally at 16:32 to give the home team a 5-4 lead.
- UNH pulled goaltender Kyra Smith (Littleton, Colo.) with 82 seconds remaining in regulation but Alexis Crossley secured the win for the Terriers with an empty-net goal at 19:44.
- Cassandra Vilgrain (Calgary, Alberta) matched her career high of two goals as she gave New Hampshire a 2-0 lead with goals at 10:37 and 14:55 of the first period.
- BU's Leslie struck early in the second period – just 30 seconds after the opening faceoff – but Amy Boucher (Edmonton, Alberta) netted a power-play goal at 7:16 to reestablish a two-goal lead of 3-1.
WILDCAT NOTEBOOK
- Sophomore defenseman Amy Schlagel (Blaine, Minn.) matched her career high of two assists to also tie her personal best of two points.
- Boucher and Curtis both finished with a goal and an assist.
- Smith recorded her sixth 30-plus save effort of the season with 32 stops, including 18 in the third period, which is her highest single-period total of the season.
- The line of Curtis, Boucher and Vilgrain accounted for all four UNH goals and a total of six points.
