Women's Track & Field Remains in First Place after Day Two at ECAC Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. – The University of New Hampshire women's track and field team remains in first place after the second day of competition at the ECAC Championships. The three-day event is being held at Princeton University.
The Wildcats hold steady with 28 points while Monmouth University is in second with 18 points. Rider University sits in third with 16 points while the University of Vermont, George Mason University and Lehigh University are tied for fourth with 14 points apiece.
Lauren Perrodin (Coral Springs, Fla.) competed in two events Saturday, the 100-meter dash and 4x100-meter relay. In the 100-meter dash, Perrodin qualified for the semifinals after taking third place in her heat and 12th overall with a time of 12.08 seconds. She placed ninth in the semifinal round with a time of 11.98 seconds and is an alternate for Sunday's championship round.
Senior Virginia Lavallee (Kingston, N.H.) placed 15th in in the preliminary round of the 100-meter hurdles to qualify for the semifinals. Her preliminary time was 14.32 seconds. In the semifinals, Lavallee placed 16th with a time of 14.44 seconds.
The quartet of Lavallee, Perrodin, Sydney Kay (Fairfield, Conn.) and Danielle Gajewski (Danville, N.H.) took fourth in their heat and ninth overall in the 4x100-meter relay. They collectively ran a time of 47.22 seconds, setting a new UNH record. The previous record of 47.87 seconds was set in 2014. Perrodin was also a part of that record holding team.
Sophomore Hannah Kimball (Atkinson, N.H.) finished sixth in her heat and 17th overall as she competed in the 1,500-meter run. Kimball crossed the finish line with a time of four minutes, 34.97 seconds.
Sophomore Alyson Messina (Plymouth, Mass.) placed fourth in her heat and 24th overall in the 400-meter hurdles when she came in with a time of 1:02.77.
Senior Jessica Salley (Andover, Mass.) will compete on Sunday in the high jump. The event has a start time of 12:30 p.m. For more information on women's track and field, visit www.UNHWildcats.com.
