Women's Track and Field Ties for Ninth at ECAC Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. – The University of New Hampshire women's track and field team tied for ninth place out of 52 teams at the ECAC Championships, which wrapped up Sunday afternoon. The three-day event was held at Princeton University.
The Wildcats finished with 28 points, tying with Villanova University. George Mason University took first place with 53 points while James Madison University finished second with 40 points. Hampton University took third with 37 points while the University at Albany (36.75) and UMBC (32.75) rounded out the top five.
Senior Jessica Salley (Andover, Mass.) was the lone Wildcat competitor on Sunday as she took part in the high jump. Salley was unable to clear the first mark of 1.67 meters. Four additional competitors in the event did not clear the first mark while nine others were only able to clear 1.67 meters.
The Wildcats recorded all 28 points in a stellar first day of competition on Friday, May 15. Redshirt freshman Elinor Purrier (Montgomery, Vt.) shattered an eight-year old school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase while sophomore Laura Rose Donegan (Melbourne, Australia) came in third in the event. A trio of junior nursing majors also earned points as Samantha Blais (Lyndeborough, N.H.), Amber Short (Keene, N.H.) and Brianna Boden (Keene, N.H.) finished third, fourth and seventh in the 10,000-meter run. The Wildcats also broke a school record in the 4x100-meter relay on Saturday.
