Men's Track and Field Takes Third at Holy Cross Classic

WORCESTER, Mass. – The University of New Hampshire men's track and field team took third place at the Holy Cross Classic held at Hart Track at the College of the Holy Cross. The meet took place Tuesday afternoon.
The University of Rhode Island took first place with a total of 219 points while Holy Cross took second with 147 points. In fourth behind the Wildcats (136) was Worcester State University with 110 points.
Junior Brendan McCarthy (Mansfield, Mass.) claimed first place in the 5,000-meter run as he broke the tape with a time of fifteen minutes, 26.73 seconds. McCarthy also competed in the 1,500-meter run and took fourth place with a time of 4:08.88. Sophomore Mitchell Dutton (Salem, N.H.) also ran the 5,000-meter run and came in second place with a time of 15:36.70. Dutton too competed in the 1,500-meter run and finished eighth as he crossed the line to a time of 4:18.63.
Sophomore Andrew McFarland (Nazareth, Pa.) broke the tape in the 400-meter hurdles as he ran a NEICAAA qualifying time of 56.08 seconds. Senior Steve Souza (Fall River, Mass.) took silver in the 800-meter run. He crossed the finish line with a time of 1:53.39, a NEICAAA qualifying and a career best mark.
Junior Thomas Lynch (Pelham, N.H.) earned a pair of bronze medals as he placed third in the shot put and the hammer throw. He hit a distance of 14.41 meters in the shot put and recorded a new career best in the hammer throw with a mark of 48.75 meters. Freshman Cullen Aubin (Providence, R.I.) took fourth in the hammer throw as he cleared a distance of 45.30 meters.
Freshman Richard Jasper (Rockland, Mass.) earned a spot on the podium as he took third in the triple jump. His mark of 12.85 meters was a new career-high mark. Classmate Joel Nkounkou (Dover, N.H.) took fourth in the triple jump, hitting a distance of 12.51 meters.
The quarter of senior Kevin Greene (Silver Spring, Md.), Souza, sophomore John Cox (Rome, Ga.) and freshman Joseph Poggi (Derry, N.H.) took third place in the 4x400-meter relay. Collectively, they ran a time of 3:25.32.
Junior Daniel Johnson (Lancaster, N.H.) raced to a fourth place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.96 seconds. Sophomore Cedric Masengere (Newton, Mass.) hit a distance of 49.29 meters, a new career best, in the javelin throw to take fourth place.
James Anderson (Melrose, Mass.) competed in the 400-meter hurdles and took fifth place. The junior ran a time of 58.79 seconds. Freshman Timothy Kenefick (Guilford, Conn.) paced his way to a fifth place finish in the 5,000-meter run as he came in with a time of 16:04.32, a career best mark. Classmate Nicholas DiBartholomeo (Weston, Conn.) finished fifth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.80 meters. It was the first event of his collegiate career. Senior Wyatt Berrier (North Conway, N.H.) finished fifth in the discus throw as he hit a distance of 39.20 meters.
