Women's Track & Field Finishes First Day at New England Championships

BOSTON – The University of New Hampshire women's track and field team finished the first day of competition at the New England Championships held at Boston University on Friday.
Junior Cassie Kruse (Hampshire, Ill.) cruised to a first place finish in her heat in the 1,000-meter run as she broke the tape to a time of 2:51.19. She qualified for the finals on Saturday. Sophomore Amanda Szymanski (Londonderry, N.H.) also qualified for the finals as she placed sixth in the event. She clocked in with a time of 2:57.02.
Junior sprinter Lauren Perrodin (Coral Springs, Fla.) took first place in her heat in the 60-meter dash as she broke the tape with a time of 7.63 seconds. She qualified for the finals on Saturday. She also qualified for the finals in the 200-meter dash as she ran a time of 25.08 seconds.
Senior sprinter Virginia Lavallee (Kingston, N.H.) qualified for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles as she ran to a time of 8.94 seconds. Freshman Danielle Gajewski (Danville, N.H.) qualified for the finals in the 500-meter dash as she placed first in her heat with a time of 1:17.08.
In the 5,000-meter run, junior Brianna Boden (Keene, N.H.) took eighth place as she completed the event to a time of 17:37.90. The distance medley relay team of Angelyn Masters, Alyson Messina (Plymouth, Mass.), Rachael DePalma (Orange, Conn.) and Julia Shorter (Amesbury, Mass.) took eighth place as the quartet accrued a time of 12:03.67.
The two-day competition wraps up Saturday, Feb. 28 with the first event taking place at 10 a.m. For more information, visit www.UNHWildcats.com.
