Women's Track & Field Claims Sixth at New England Championships

BOSTON – The University of New Hampshire women's track and field team claimed sixth place of 38 teams at the New England Championships as the event finished Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats earned 50 points over two days.
Northeastern took first place with 81 points while Southern Connecticut State took second with 78 points. University of New Haven took third (60) while University of Rhode Island (57.50) and UMass Amherst (52) rounded out the top five.
Senior Jessica Salley (Andover, Mass.) took the top spot on the podium in the high jump as she cleared a mark of 1.70 meters to earn UNH 10 points. Sophomore Jeannette Mara (Bedford, N.H.) claimed fifth in the event with a height of 1.65 meters.
In the 1,000-meter run, junior Cassie Kruse (Hampshire, Ill.) and sophomore Amanda Szymanski (Londonderry, N.H.) finished second and fourth, respectively. Kruse finished with a time of 2:54.06 while Szymanski crossed the line in 2:55.77.
Junior Lauren Perrodin (Coral Springs, Fla.) took silver in the 60-meter dash as she posted a time of 7.65 seconds. She also finished seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.15 seconds. Junior Brianna Boden (Keene, N.H.) took eighth place in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:37.90.
Laura Rose Donegan (Melbourne, Australia) claimed a sixth-place result in the mile run as she earned three points with a time of 5:00.34. In the 3,000-meter run, freshman Riley Gilmore (Haverhill, Mass.) finished eighth with a time of 9:58.42.
In the 500-meter dash, freshman Danielle Gajewski (Danville, N.H.) finished fifth as she came in with a time of 1:16.82.
Senior Virginia Lavallee (Kingston, N.H.) earned two points for UNH as she finished seventh in the 60-meter hurdles. She crossed the finish line with a time of 9.04 seconds.
The quartet of Brittany Hunt (Lynnfield, Mass.), Lauren Brown (St. Johnsbury, Vt.), Rachel DePalma (Orange, Conn.) and Angelyn Masters finished eighth in the 4x800 meter relay. They collectively ran a time of 9:16.22.
The Wildcats are back in action on Friday as they travel to Boston University for the ECAC Division I Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship. The three-day event begins Friday, March 6. For more information, visit www.UNHWildcats.com.
