Men's Track & Field Competes at Day One of New England Championships

BOSTON – The University of New Hampshire men's track and field team completed the first day of competition at the New England Championships held at Boston University on Friday. The team is in 10th place with six points.
Senior Daniel Johnson (Lancaster, N.H.) competed in the first four events of the men's heptathlon. He placed sixth in the shot put and in the high jump. He threw to a mark of 12.12 meters in the shot put and leapt a height of 1.85 meters in the high jump. He took home seventh in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.38 seconds and 10th in the long jump (6.10 meters). He will compete in the other three events on Saturday.
Sophomore Michael Shanahan (Dover, N.H.) took silver in the weight throw as he hit a mark of 18.70 meters. Junior D'mahl McFadden (Penacook, N.H.) qualified for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles as he clocked in at 8.28 seconds. The finals take place on Saturday.
In the 500-meter dash, senior Steve Souza (Fall River, Mass.) qualified for the finals as he ran to a time of 1:05.15.
