Men's Track & Field Finishes Second at Maine, Competes at David Hemery Valentine Invitational

RESULTS
ORONO, Maine – The University of New Hampshire men's track and field team finished second in a dual meet at the University of Maine on Saturday at the New Balance Field House in Orono, Maine. Members of the team also competed at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational held at Boston University.
In the dual meet, Maine edged New Hampshire by three points as the totals were 76.5 for the Black Bears and 73.5 for the Wildcats.
Junior Thomas Lynch (Pelham, N.H.) earned gold in the first event of the day, the weight throw. Lynch earned victory as he threw a distance of 14.75 meters. Freshman Nicholas Ritzo (Portsmouth, N.H.) claimed bronze in the event with a distance of 13.39 meters. Classmate Cullen Aubin (Providence, R.I.) placed third with a distance of 12.91 meters. Freshman Keelan McCoole (Bedford, N.H.) and senior Daniel Johnson (Lancaster, N.H.) tied for third place in the high jump as they both cleared a distance of 1.79 meters.
Freshman Shawn Case (Manchester, N.H.) earned a second place tie with Maine's Matthew York in the long jump. Case leapt a distance of 6.19 meters. Ritzo claimed gold in the shot put as he hurled a distance of 14.67 meters. Lynch earned silver in the event with a mark of 13.88 meters. Rookies Joel Nkounkou (Dover, N.H.) and Richard Jasper took third and fourth place in the triple jump. Nkounkou achieved a distance of 12.54 meters while Jasper cleared 12.30 meters.
In the mile run, freshman Joseph Verro (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) paced the pack as he broke the tape with a time of 4:24.01. Junior Zachary Chabot (Manchester, N.H.) was right behind Verro as he completed the mile with a time of 4:24.46. The Wildcats took the top five spots in the 400-meter dash, led by sophomore Ross Hardy (North Andover, Mass.) who came in with a time of 51.02 seconds. Freshman Thomas Harter (Hampton, N.H.) was hot on Hardy's heels as he came in second with a time of 51.18 seconds. Sophomore Tanner Kent (Amherst, N.H.) finished third with a time of 51.45 seconds while freshman Robert Franger (Shrewsbury, Mass.) (52.56) and sophomore Andrew McFarland (Nazareth, Pa.) (52.97) came in fourth and fifth.
Junior Jeremy Wildgoose (Woodstock, Conn.) earned gold in the 3,000-meter run as he finished the event with a time of 8:36.52. In the 4x400 meter relay, the quartet of Hardy, McFarland, Harter and Kent defeated the Maine relay team with a time of 3:28.09. The 'Cats also claimed gold in the 4x800-meter relay with a time if 8:21.17. Verro, Chabot, Nathan Kittredge (Amherst, N.H.) and Souza made up the first-place team.
At the David Hemery Invitational, seven Wildcats competed in various events. Junior D'mahl McFadden (Penacook, N.H.) finished fourth in his heat and 16th overall out of 82 competitors in the 60-meter hurdles. He finished the event with a time of 8.43 seconds. Sophomore Drew Piazza (Danvers, Mass.) finished third in his heat and third overall out of 206 runners in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:48.95. Sophomore Christopher Poggi (Derry, N.H.) finished fourth in his heat and 12th overall in the same event with a time of 1:51.82.
In the 400-meter dash, junior Christopher DeCarlo (Derry, N.H.) finished fourth in his heat and 121st overall of 194 runners with a time of 51.27. In the 200-meter dash, McFadden took third in his heat and 56th overall of 206 runners with a time of 22.27. Junior Dylan Pelletier (Orford, N.H.) finished fifth in the same heat and 93rd overall with a time of 22.69.
Senior Kevin Greene (Silver Spring, Md.) achieved an eighth place finish in his heat and 26th overall finish out of 314 runners in the mile run. He crossed the line with a time of 4:05.80. Senior John Prizzi (Wyckoff, N.J.) and classmate Jeffrey Moretti (Guilford, Conn.) both competed in the 3,000-meter run. Prizzi finished fourth his heat and 18th overall out of 120 runners with a time of 8:10.52. Moretti finished 11th in his heat and 71st overall with a time of 8:37.55.
