BOSTON – Senior Laura Rose Donegan (Melbourne, Australia) of the University of New Hampshire women's cross country team paced her way to a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Women's Cross Country NCAA Northeast Regional meet, Friday afternoon at Franklin Park.
Donegan raced to a time of 20 minutes, 43.1 seconds over the 6K course to help the Wildcats place 10th overall, with 308 points, out of 38 teams. Her sixth place finish was out of 259 runners. Donegan made a huge jump from last season where she finished 31st in 21:11.6 at the same meet. The finish secures All-Region honors after earning All-Conference First Team status following the America East Championships on Oct. 31.
Joining Donegan, classmate Amber Short (Keene, N.H.) earned All-Region honors for finishing in the top-25. Short finished 21st overall, a 45-spot jump from a year ago, with a time of 21:17.7. No duo has secured All-Region status since 2011 when Keely Maguire and Sydney Fitzpatrick earned the recognition.
Sophomore Amanda Szymanski (Londonderry, N.H.) took 69th place, racing to a time of 22:16 while senior Samantha Blais (Lyndeborough, N.H.) placed 100th, clocking in at 22:37. Freshman Shannon Murdock (Exeter, N.H.) finished 112th with a result of 22:45 while junior Sarah Keiran (Rowley, Mass.) placed 115th at 22:47.
The season may not be over yet as Donegan could receive an at-large bid to compete at the NCAA cross country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 21.
