UNH Women's T&F Falls Short Against Holy Cross In Home Dual Meet

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's track and field program won nine events but fell to the College of the Holy Cross in its home dual meet Saturday afternoon (Jan. 17) at the Paul Sweet Oval indoor track.
The Wildcats earned a total of 211.50 points while the Crusaders finished with 219.50.
New Hampshire placed first in the 500m, 800m, 1000m, one mile and 300m runs.
In the first event of the day, 55m dash, junior Lauren Perrodin (Coral Springs, Fla.) came in second with a time of 7 minutes and12 seconds. She also paced the 'Cats to a second seeded finish in the 200m dash (26.38).
For the 500m run, Danielle Gajewski (Danville, N.H.) claimed the first place finish of the day for UNH with a time of 1:18.45.
Senior captain, Anne Twombly (Exeter, N.H.) had an exceptional day coming in first in the 800m and 3000m events. In the 800m run, she crossed the finish line with a time of 2:15.47, three seconds ahead of the next competitor of Holy Cross. The Granite State native paced herself with a time of 10:15.49 in the 300m run.
The 'Cats took the top two spots in the 1000 and one mile run. Junior Cassie Kruse (Hampshire, Ill.) and Amanda Symanski (Londonderry, N.H.) took part in the 1000m run finishing first and second respectively. For the one mile run, Laura Rose Donegan (Melbourne, Australia) paced the 'Cats to first place with a time of 5:04.99 and senior captain Chesley Serrano (Raymond, N.H.) followed two seconds later.
For the 4x800m relay, the team of Kruse, Symanski, Brittany Hunt (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Sarah Keiran (Rowley, Mass.) came in second with a total time of 9:33.04, just four seconds behind the Crusader's first place finishers.
Senior Jessica Salley (Andover, Mass.) came on top in the high jump event (1.64 meters). Salley has earned a first place finish in all of the high jump events she has competed in thus far this season.
In the final two events, the shot put and weight throw, junior Abigail Kaplan (Franklin, N.H.) took the top positions with scores of 11.78m/ 38-07.75 and 13.76m/ 45-01.75.
Up next, UNH returns to the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston for a second time this season to compete in the Joe Donahue Invitational (4 p.m.).
