Men's Track & Field Tops Maine 95-91

ORONO, Maine – The University of New Hampshire men's track and field team defeated the University of Maine 95-91 over the weekend as the squad finished first 10 times. The two-day event started with multi events on Friday and finished with track and field events on Saturday, all of which took place at the New Balance Field House.
New Hampshire's sophomore Michael Shanahan notched a first-place finish with a mark of 18.85m (61-10.25) indoor weight throw record-holder. Senior Jacob Renaud finished third 16.28m (53-05.00) while junior Thomas Lynch took the fourth spot 14.40m (47-3.00).
In the pole vault, Maine's Devin Burgess took the first spot while UNH finished second and third respectively. UNH's Bryan Morris finished second (4.15m – 13-07.25) as Alexander Tamulonis followed with a mark of 3.95m (12-11.50).
New Hampshire took the top four positions in the shot put as Shanahan finished first for a second time with a total mark of 14.94m (49-00.25). Freshmen Nicholas Ritzo took second 14.24m (46-08.75).
The next event was the high jump as UNH's Keelan McCoole took the last position (fourth) 1.83m. Maine's Assad Hicks finished first in the event 1.93m (6-4.00).
In the triple jump, the Wildcats finished in fourth and fifth place while the Black Bears took the top three spots.
Sophomore Drew Piazza paced the 'Cats to a first place finish in the one mile run with a time of 4:18.09. Fellow teammate Robert Biro took the fifth spot finishing the event with a time of 4:32.71.
Junior D'Mahl CFadden and sophomore Ryan Maney placed first and second in the 60-meter hurdles.
In the 400 and 60 meter-dash, Maine finished first (50.57). UNH's Sophomore Ross Hardy placed second with a time of 51.10 in the 400 dash while junior Dylan Pellectier finished in the second spot running a time of 7.16.
New Hampshire's Christopher Poggi paced the Wildcats to another first place finish in the 500 meter run with a time of 1:04.82. His brother, Joesph Poggi, ran the 800m event placing first with a time of 1:59.76.
UNH earned first place in the 4x400 relay. The team of Joesph Poggi, Thomas Harter, sophomore Christopher Decarlo (Derry, N.H.), and Ross Hardy finished in 3:24.06 for a total of five points.
Maine's 4x800 meter relay team notched a first-place finish as Jonathan Stanhope, Thomas Salamone, Justin Tracy and Levi Frye all combined for a time of 8:10.18.
In Friday's Pentathlon, New Hampshire's freshmen Shawn Case finished second with a total of 3897 points.
The Wildcats return to action Saturday, Dec. 13 when it travels to Boston for the Jay Carisella Carnival.
