COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Katie O'Donnell recorded a goal and three assists to lead the second-ranked University of Maryland field hockey team to Saturday afternoon's 7-0 non-conference victory against the University of New Hampshire in the opening game of the Terrapin Invitational.

UNH, which entered the game with a four-game winning streak, is now 4-1. UMD is 4-0.

The Terrapins quickly took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Janessa Pope in the second minute of play. UNH goalkeeper Katherine Nagengast (Westborough, Mass.) stopped the next three shots she faced before O'Donnell scored on a penalty corner to extend the advantage to two goals at 17:40.

UNH was awarded its first penalty corner of the game with eight minutes remaining in the first half and almost capitalized on that opportunity, as the shot by Kyle Lyons (White River Junction, Vt.) beat UMD goalie Natalie Hunter but Jemma Buckley stopped the ball from entering the cage.

That pressure resulted in a second corner for the Wildcats. Hayley Rausch (Severna Park, Md.) once again pushed the ball into play and this time Kara Connolly (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) fired a shot wide.

Maryland generated a sequence of consecutive penalty corners and, on the third attempt, produced a goal by Ali McEvoy to take a 3-0 lead at 32:46.

UMD took that three-goal lead, as well as the advantages in both shots (10-2) and penalty corners (7-2), into halftime.

Nagengast made her seventh save of the game in the 44^th minute and then the 'Cats generated a dangerous scoring opportunity one minute later on a penalty corner. Rausch initiated the play and Lyons' initial shot from the top of the circle was stopped by Hunter, who also stopped Rausch's shot off the rebound.

The Terrapins took a 4-0 lead at 47:17 when Hayley Turner scored on a rebound off Pope's initial shot. UMD's Buckley scored on a penalty corner at 50:23 to extend the advantage to five goals and force UNH to call time out.

Maryland scored its sixth goal of the stick of Megan Frazer on a penalty corner at 52:25 and capped the scoring on Jill Witmer's goal at 67:44.

Nagengast finished the game with nine saves and her UMD counterpart was credited with three stops.

The game totals in both shots (20-6) and corners (12-5) favored the Terps.

New Hampshire returns to action Sept. 12 (12 p.m.) against 20^th-ranked American University in the second day of action at the Terrapin Invitational.
