– Kristina Lavoie (Fonthill, Ontario)
extended her goal-scoring streak to eight games and Micaela
Long (South Boston, Mass.) pushed her point-scoring streak
to 17 games to lead the fourth-ranked University of New Hampshire
women's ice hockey team to Saturday night's 3-1 victory
against the University of Maine in Hockey East action at Alfond
Arena.
UNH, which completed the series sweep of the Black Bears to win its
14th straight in the series and extend the unbeaten streak vs. UM
to 26 games (24-0-2), is now 15-4-5 overall and 9-3-2-0 in Hockey
East. Maine is 6-15-5, 3-10-3-1.
Lindsey Minton (Richardson, Texas), in her first
action since Jan. 8, recorded 19 saves, including 12 in the third
period, and lost the shutout when Jennie Gallo netted a two-skater
advantage goal with 45 seconds remaining in the game. UM
counterpart Brittany Ott made double-digit saves all three periods
(10-11-12) to finish with 33 overall.
The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead at 5:29 of the first period on
Lavoie's 13th goal of the year. Raylen
Dziengelewski (Southwick, Mass.) set up the goal to mark
her fifth consecutive game with an assist.
Kristine Horn (Utica, Mich.) scored a power-play
goal with three seconds remaining in the first period to extend
UNH's advantage to 2-0. Courtney Sheary
(Melrose, Mass.) and Sarah Cuthbert (East
Falmouth, Mass.) were credited with assists; it marked the second
assist in as many nights for both Sheary and Cuthbert.
UNH recorded a 12-2 shot advantage and an 11-5 edge in the
scoreless second stanza.
Kelly Paton (Woodstock, Ontario), with the
assistance of Katie Brock (Marblehead, Mass.) and
Long, netted her team-leading 14th goal of the season at 8:17 of
the third period to give the 'Cats a 3-0 lead.
With the Black Bears on the power play and Ott on the bench in
favor of an extra skater, Gallo scored at 19:15 to trim the deficit
to 3-1. Lexie Hoffmeyer and Jenna Ouellette set up the tally.
New Hampshire returns to action Feb. 3 (7 p.m.) at the University
of Vermont. The Wildcats' next home game is Feb. 6 against
Boston University. Game time at the Whittemore Center is 2 p.m.
