Mahon tabbed Swimmer of Week and Blume takes Diver of Week honors
BOSTON – Senior captain Grace Mahon (Orange, Conn.) and senior Grace Blume (Dedham, Mass.) of the UNH swimming and diving team earned America East weekly honors, the league announced Tuesday. Mahon was named the America East Swimmer of the Week, while Blume was selected as the America East Diver of the Week following the Wildcats' season-opening 164-136 victory against Vermont on Oct. 17 at Swasey Pool.
Mahon won both butterfly events against the Catamounts. She captured the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:04.05, finishing more than four seconds ahead of the runner-up, and followed with a victory in the 100 fly in 55.70 seconds. Mahon also swam the third leg of UNH's winning 400-yard freestyle relay. She teamed with junior captain Teagen Jeffers (Bedford, N.H.), sophomore Madeline Chen (California, Md.) and senior Sydney Leblic (Madrid, Spain) to record a winning time of 3:33.17, edging Vermont by 0.27 seconds. Mahon also helped the Wildcats place second in the 200 medley relay. This is her second career America East Swimmer of the Week award. She was previously feted on Nov. 5, 2024.
Blume swept the diving events with victories on both boards. She won the 1-meter competition with 293.40 points, finishing more than 40 points ahead of the runner-up. The senior completed the sweep with 278.25 points on the 3-meter board, winning the event by more than 34 points. Blume was honored as AE Diver of the Week for the sixth time in her career.
