Luis Guzman, now in his second year at UNH, is an assistant coach for the men's basketball team.
Guzman joined Head Coach Nathan Davis' staff for the 2023-24 season where he helped NBA Summer League bound Clarence Daniels earn the America East Player of the Year title.
In the Spring of 2024, Guzman was recognized by Silver Waves Media on its list of "100 Rising Stars Men’s Mid-Majors Assistant Coaches."
Before joining the Wildcats, Guzman spent the 2022-23 season as the Director of Basketball Operations for the University at Albany men's basketball team. There he helped coach freshman Jonathan Beagle to an America East Rookie of the Year award in the 2022-23 season. Before joining the Great Danes, Guzman was the Director of Basketball Operations at Stetson University (2019-22) in DeLand, Fla., Associate Head Coach at NJCAA Monroe College (2018-19) in New Rochelle, N.Y., and the Director of Player Development at Rider University (2017-18) in Lawrenceville, N.J. He also had stops as a Director of Scouting and Assistant Coach with FIBA (2017-22) and with the NBA as League Basketball Operations Manager (2017-18).
“Luis is an outstanding addition to our staff,” said Davis. “He was a championship player at Temple. Luis played overseas before joining the coaching profession. He has worked with great coaches in excellent programs. He will be a valuable addition that can help in every aspect of the program, on and off the court.
In 2020-21, Stetson participated in NCAA Division I postseason play for the first time in school history, earning an invitation to the CBI. On March 22, Stetson won its first-ever NCAA Division I postseason game, defeating Bowling Green 53-52 at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach. The Hatters rallied from 15-point second half deficit to post the historic win. In the conference tournament, the 7th-seeded Hatters pulled off a 73-70 upset win over 2-seed Bellarmine in the ASUN Championship quarterfinals. Stetson advanced to the ASUN for the second time in two years. In addition, Stetson was the only ASUN team to defeat all eight conference opponents at least once during the season.
In his one season at Monroe, the Mustangs were 25-6 and won the Region XI championship. Monroe finished the season ranked No. 23 nationally.
Prior to his time at Monroe, Guzman spent one season as Director of Player Development at Rider University in Lawrenceville, N.J. During his year at Rider, the Broncos went 22-10 overall and 15-3 in conference play, capturing the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular-season title. Although the Broncs were upset in the first round of the MAAC Tournament, they still earned a bid into the 2018 NIT.
Guzman spent the summer of 2019 as an assistant coach for the Dominican Republic national team during the recently-completed FIBA World Cup in China, coaching under Nestor ‘Che’ Garcia. The D.R. finished Cup play among the top 16 teams in the world.
In 2015-16, the Washington Heights, N.Y. native, returned to Temple as a member of the coaching staff, serving as a graduate manager while pursuing his Master’s degree. Upon graduating, Guzman created the Washington Heights Invitational Basketball League in 2016 to serve his hometown community.
Guzman was Basketball Hall of Famer John Chaney's last recruit at Temple. Playing under Fran Dunphy, Guzman helped lead the Owls to three Atlantic 10 Championships and four NCAA Tournament appearances during his career, serving as team captain as a senior. The team was ranked No. 12 in the AP Rankings and won 29 games while losing only five in the 2009-10 season. The 2009-10 team also won the Big-5 tournament consisting of all Division I schools in Philadelphia, as well as the Atlantic-10 regular season and conference championships. During his time at Temple, Guzman received the Anthony Cimino Award for excellence in athletics and academics.
Guzman also played professionally in eight different countries over a five-year span. He won championships while competing in the Dominican Republic, Denmark, Mongolia and Mexico. He was a member the Dominican Republic National basketball team at the Pan-Am Games in 2011, and was a member of the silver-medal winning U17 team at the 2005 Centrobasket Tournament.
Guzman graduated from Temple in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in business marketing. He later obtained his master's degree in sports business from Temple in 2017.
