ORONO, Maine – Senior captain Kim Povec (Holland-Patent, N.Y.) raced to a first-place finish to lead the University of New Hampshire women’s cross country team to Saturday afternoon’s fourth-place showing at the Murray Keatinge Invitational at the University of Maine.
The Wildcats finished with 84 points, behind Duke University (46), Boston College (54) and Yale University (74), but ahead of Dartmouth College (103), Maine (161) and the College of the Holy Cross (175).
Povec completed the five-kilometer course in 18 minutes, 5.38 seconds, more than two seconds ahead of the runner up.
Sophomore Erica Jesseman (Scarborough, Maine) was the other top-10 finisher for the Wildcats, placing ninth in a time of 18:20.30.
Senior Elizabeth Morrissey (Mt. Kisco, N.Y.) was the third Wildcat in the top 20, finishing 16th in a time of 18:29.65.
Sophomore Sidney Fitzpatrick (Billerica, Mass.) finished 25th in a time of 18:43.44, while junior Courtney Hamer (Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Allison Letourneau (Kingston, Nova Scotia), last week’s America East Performer of the Week, were 33rd and 34th, respectively, at 18:57.46 and 18:57.91. Sophomore Mackenzie Ferreira (Westerly, R.I.) placed 37th in the 93-runner field in a time of 19:03.04
The Wildcats return to action Saturday, Oct. 11 at the New England Championships at Franklin Park in Boston.
