DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's and women's track and field teams open the 2013-14 indoor season when they host the University of Maine Friday, Dec. 6 at Paul Sweet Oval.
Fresh off an America East Cross Country title, the women's team looks forward to a successful indoor campaign. The women placed fifth in the America East during the 2012-13 indoor season. UNH notched a victory over Maine in the squad's home meet (Dec. 8, 2012) and took fourth out of 11 teams at the URI Invitational (Feb. 2).
Last year the men's squad claimed fifth place at the America East Championship and earned three top-three finishes. The Wildcat men earned first place in a dual meet with Holy Cross (Jan. 19) and took second place at the Boston Indoor Games (Jan. 25) and the URI Invitational (Feb. 2).
The women's squad returns 18 seniors, 16 juniors, and 23 sophomores, while welcoming in 23 freshmen. The men's team consists of 15 seniors, 14 juniors, 13 sophomores, and 16 freshmen.
The UNH women's team has also announced its four senior captains for the upcoming season. Distance runner Elise Beattie (Woodstock, Ill.), sprinter Caroline Bonsaint (Hampton, N.H.), sprinter Allison Brehm (Pembroke, N.H.), and thrower Rosemary Reed (West Greenwich, R.I.) were named captains by coaches Casey Carroll and Robert Hoppler.
This is the second year in a row that UNH will host a dual meet versus Maine. Last year the women took a 109-80 victory over the Black Bears, while the men fell to Maine 102-89.
