The Hockey East Association will sponsor a Division I women’s ice hockey league beginning this fall, it was announced today by Hockey East Commissioner Joe Bertagna. Charter members of the conference include Boston College, the University of Maine, the University of New Hampshire, Northeastern University, and Providence College. In addition, an invitation has been extended to the University of Connecticut to become the sixth team in the conference and that invitation has been accepted by Director of Athletics Lew Perkins.




DURHAM, N.H. - Brian McCloskey, who has served as associate men's hockey coach at the University of New Hampshire the past four years, has been named head coach of the women's hockey program, UNH director of athletics Martin Scarano announced Tuesday.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The NCAA announced Sunday night that the University of Minnesota, Niagara University, University of Minnesota-Duluth and Brown University have been selected to compete in the 2002 NCAA Women's Ice Hockey Championship that will be held at the University of New Hampshire's Whittemore Center from March 22-24. The semifinal games, which will be broadcast live by New England Sports Network and CNN/Sports Illustrated, are scheduled for 5 and 8:30 p.m. on March 22. The consolation game will be played at 12:30 p.m. on March 24 and will be followed at four o'clock by the championship game.

Durham, NH- The University of New Hampshire Athletic Department is offering a special group ticket package to youth hockey teams for the women's ice hockey National Championship. Tickets that are purchased by groups of 100 or more will be only $10 each. The vote took place Sept. 25 during the annual Fall Meeting at the Andover Country Club in Andover, Mass. and the motion passed without opposition.
