DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire men's ice hockey team earned the No. 1 seed in the East Regional at the Worcester Centrum and will play on Sunday, March 24th at 3:30 p.m. vs. the winner of the Cornell and Quinnipiac matchup.

The Wildcats earned an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament after defeating Maine, 3-1, in the Hockey East Tournament on Saturday, March 16th at the FleetCenter. UNH will make its 12th apperance in the NCAA Tournament and second as the No. 1 seed.

UNH has never faced Quinnipiac and Coach Umile has never faced Cornell in his 12 year coaching career at UNH. UNH owns an 9-10-0 vs. Cornell in 19 all-time meetings with the Big Red winning the last meeting, 5-2 on Jan. 3, 1988 at the Yale Invitational tournament with Dave O'Connor coaching the Wildcats.

The Wildcats own a 7-15 record all-time in the NCAA Tournament and Coach Umile is 5-7 in 12 NCAA contests.

The announcement was made tonight by the NCAA Selection committee which was live on ESPNEWS at 9 p.m. EST.
