September 1, 1967 ~ Joyce Mills, the first women's basketball head coach, is hired as a professor and coach in the Physical Education department. |
December 12, 1975 ~ The Wildcats play their first game at varsity status, defeating the University of Maine-Gorham, 64-60, at home. |
March, 1977 ~ The Wildcats defeat Plymouth State 100-61. The 100 points is a scoring record that has never been matched. |
December 2, 1977 ~ Cecelia DeMarco takes over as head coach of the program as the Wildcats fall to Massachusetts, 53-49. |
December 8, 1977 ~ In the second home game of the season, UNH defeats UMass-Lowell, 93-35. The 55-point win is largest margin of victory in the history of the program. |
July 18, 1978 ~ Jean Giarrusso, a 1977 grad, is picked by the New Jersey Gems (Women's Basketball League) in the first professional women's basketball draft. |
February 22, 1979 ~ Kathy Ladd pulls down 24 rebounds vs. Connecticut, setting a UNH single-game rebounding record. |
January 25, 1983 ~ UNH records the 100th victory in program history with a 75-56 victory at Yale. The all-time record stands at 100-55 for a .645 winning percentage. |
March 11, 1983 ~ The Wildcats advance to their first appearance in the ECAC tournament. UNH hosted and defeated Holy Cross (69-55) and Manhattan (79-61). |
January 19, 1983 ~ In the game versus St. John's, senior captain Theresa Redmond scored 21 points and became the first women's basketball player ever to reach more than 1,000 points at UNH. Redmond, who received a 12-inch chocolate-chip cookie as her trophy, finished her career with 1,252 points. |
March 11, 1983 ~ UNH earned a No. 1 seed in the first ever ECAC Division I Women's Basketball Championship. The Wildcats played host to and defeated Holy Cross, 68-55. |
March 12, 1983 ~ The Wildcats capture the ECAC tournament title with a 79-61 win against Manhattan. Though the 22-7 ECAC champions had wins against both Big East champions, St. John's, and Ivy League champs, Dartmouth, the Wildcats were denied one of the 14 at-large bids to the NCAA tournament. Coach DeMarco is recognized as the Converse District I Coach of the Year after posting the best record in the history of the program. |
November 27, 1983 ~ UNH defeats Connecticut after edging by Rhode Island to win the New England Tip-Off tournament title in Amherst, Mass. In four years of the tourney, the Wildcats were the only champion. |
February 29, 1983 ~ Denise Higgins sets a school record in blocks with six against Fordham. It was matched three times before being broken nearly 27 years later. |
February 13, 1984 ~ Corinne Gulas sets the UNH record for most steals in a single game with 10 in a 83-65 win at Maine. |
February 21, 1984 ~ Christine Gulas establishes the UNH record for assists in a game with 13 in a 72-54 win vs. UConn. |
March 2, 1984 ~ UNH defeated Northeastern, 74-64, to grab back-to-back ECAC championship titles. Senior guard Corinne Gulas, who scored 26 points in the championship game, received All-America accolades. |
February 6, 1985 ~ Prior to the 1984-85 season, UNH joined Boston University, Brooklyn, Maine, Northeastern and Vermont to form the Seaboard Conference. UNH defeated Boston University 70-56 for the first ever league victory and went on to finish 4-1 in the league. |
February 27, 1986 ~ Kris Kinney was honored with the first ever Seaboard League Rookie of the Year award. Only one other Wildcat has been given an equivalent accolade. |
November 29, 1986 ~ Former standout Kathy Sanborn takes over as head coach as the Wildcats face the Eagles of Boston College. |
February 28, 1989 ~ Kris Kinney, five-time Seaboard player of the week, received Player of the Year honors at the annual awards banquet. Kinney, who led the league in scoring (25.7 ppg) for the second consecutive season, is the only Wildcat in the history of the program to receive league Player of the Year recognition. |
March 1, 1989 ~ Kris Kinney posted 30 points against Boston University, totaling 695 on the season to set a school record. With 2,231 career points, Kinney became the all-time school point leader. |
January 3, 1990 ~ Julie Donlon drained a record high six 3-pointers versus Central Florida. It was matched six times before being broken in December 2011. |
January 13, 1990 ~ Prior to the 1989-90 season the North Atlantic Conference merged with the Seaboard Conference, adding Colgate and Hartford to the Wildcats' conference schedule. UNH defeated Northeastern, 61-51, for its first NAC victory. |
January 31, 1990 ~ Laura Seiden scored a program-high 38 points in the Wildcats' 63-50 win against Northeastern. |
March 7, 1990 ~ Record setting rookie Laura Seiden is awarded North Atlantic Rookie of the Year honors. Seiden was named Rookie of the Week seven times throughout the season. The Wildcats also finished the season as the league leader in 3-point percentage (.355) and had three players on the all-NAC second team. |
December 9, 1990 ~ UNH records the 200th victory in program history with a 66-60 win against UMass at Lundholm Gym. The all-time record stands at 200-136. |
February 2, 1993 ~ Kathy Sanborn tallied her 100th career victory as head coach of women's basketball with an 87-84 win versus Harvard. |
December 17, 1995 ~ The Wildcats play their first game at the newly constructed Whittemore Center as it upset Big East power Boston College, 67-64, in front of a crowd of 325. |
March 5, 1995 ~ Averaging 43.3 boards per game, the Wildcats finished the season as the North Atlantic Conference leader in rebounding. |
February 25, 1996 ~ UNH records the 300th victory in program history with a 85-60 win at Boston University. The all-time record stands at 300-223. |
March 5, 1997 ~ Forward Kathy Caldwell pulled down 14 boards, raising her career total to 900 rebounds, a UNH all-time record. Caldwell also finished the season as the league leader in rebounds (11.5 rpg) for the second consecutive year. |
April 10, 1997 ~ America East Coach of the Year Kathy Sanborn resigns to pursue other opportunities as announced by Athletic Director Judy Ray. |
June 18, 1997 ~ Judy Ray announced Sue Johnson as the fourth head coach in the 22-year history of the program. |
March 11, 1999 ~ The Wildcats went 19-8 on the season and earned a WNIT berth, but fell at Arkansas State, 78-65. |
April 24, 2000 ~ Marty Scarano is named Athletic Director at UNH, taking over for Judy Ray. |
December 8, 2000 ~ WTSN broadcasts its first women's basketball game. Andy Schachat delivered the play-by-play in the game against Delaware. |
December 5, 2001 ~ The athletic department receives approval to begin restoration of Lundholm Gymnasium. Improvements made include a new sound system, new computer-controlled lights were added and the floor was refinished. The women's basketball locker rooms were also renovated. |
March 1, 2003 ~ UNH records the 400th victory in program history with a 70-67 overtime victory against Stony Brook. The all-time record stands at 400-317. |
March 14, 2003 ~ With 46 blocks on the season, Maren Mattias finished the season as the America East leader in blocks (1.59 bpg). |
Summer, 2003 ~ The Jerry Azumah Performance Center opened its doors the summer of 2003 to UNH student-athletes. |
January 8, 2005 ~ Sue Johnson records the 100th victory of her UNH tenure with a 74-58 win vs. Stony Brook at Lundholm Gym. |
May 8, 2007 ~ 2007 team MVP Danielle Clark, along with football player David Ball, was named Jim Urquhart Student-Athletes of the Year. Clark's other 2007 awards include being named to the America East Second-Team, the America East All-Academic team and receiving the America East Player of the Game award. |
June 6, 2007 ~ The construction of the new bleacher system at Lundholm Gymnasium begins. In addition to the bleachers, new baskets are installed and various parts of the gym are painted. |
June 12, 2007 ~ Kristin Cole was named the fifth head coach in the history of the program, announced by Athletic Director Marty Scarano. |
December 5, 2008 ~ The Wildcats drain 14 3-pointers against Colgate, setting a school record. In that same game, Amy Simpson tied the existing single-game record, scoring six trifectas; that record was accomplished eight times. |
March 7, 2009 ~ Amy Simpson nets her 59th 3-pointer of the season against Hartford, a UNH single-season record. She finished with 62 trifectas on the season. |
March 12, 2009 ~ Candace Williams was selected to the America East All-Conference Second Team, becoming only the 10th player in program history to do so. |
December 22, 2009 ~ Candace Williams notched 18 points against Louisville to become the 14th Wildcat in program history to reach the 1,000-point milestone. |
December 30, 2009 ~ Jill McDonald broke UNH's single-game block record with seven against Syracuse University. |
January 24, 2010 ~ Amy Simpson notched her 1,000-point against Binghamton University, becoming the 15th player in school history to reach the mark. |
February 3, 2010 ~ Kelley Flynn tied Jill McDonald's single-game block record with seven against Stony Brook University. |
March 3, 2010 ~ Candace Williams was selected to the America East All-Conference Second Team for the second time in her UNH career. |
March 4, 2010 ~ Jill McDonald tallied five blocks against Maine in the first round of the America East Tournament, breaking the program's single-season block record with 58 on the year. |
March 5, 2010 ~ Amy Simpson compiles her 155th assist of the 2009-10 campaign, tying a UNH single-season record against Hartford in the quarterfinals of the America East Tournament. Simpson ranks fourth all-time in assists for the Wildcats with 361. |
May 18, 2010 ~ Maureen Magarity was named the sixth head coach in the history of the program, announced by Athletic Director Marty Scarano. |
January 1, 2011 ~ Four players posted double-digit scoring performances as the Wildcats outlasted Rhode Island, 88-74, at Lundholm Gym in the program's first triple-overtime game. |
February 26, 2011 ~ Denise Beliveau finished the regular season with a conference-best 11 double-doubles. |
December 3, 2011 ~ Denise Beliveau became the 16th UNH Wildcat to reach the 1,000-point milestone when she scored the first of her 15 points vs. Holy Cross at Lundholm Gym. |
December 6, 2011 ~ Cari Reed breaks the UNH record for 3-pointers in a game with eight against Harvard University at Lundholm Gym. |
December 21, 2011~ Morgan Frame, in just her second game as a 'Cat, scored 35 points (15-26 FGs, 5-12FTs) - three less than the school record - in UNH's 73-72 overtime win vs. Wagner. |
January 5, 2012 ~ UNH ends an 18-game losing streak to Hartford with an emphatic 64-45 victory at Lundholm Gymnasium. |
February 22, 2012 ~ UNH records the 500th victory in program history with a 65-53 win against Maine on Senior Day at Lundholm Gym. The Wildcats have an overall ledger of 500-483. |
March 1, 2012 ~ Denise Beliveau receives four America East accolades: All-Conference First Team, All-Defensive Team, All-Academic Team and Player of the Game. Morgan Frame is a Second Team honoree. |
March 15, 2012 ~ UNH advanced beyond conference postseason play for the second time in school history with a first-round game of the Women's Basketball Invitational. The 'Cats lost 63-59 at Holy Cross. |
January 4, 2013 ~ Women's basketball competed in its 1,000th game in UNH program history at home. The Wildcats were defeated 48-44 by Stony Brook University. |
February 2, 2013 ~ Kelsey Hogan records her 250th career assist with the second of her three in the game in a 60-47 loss to Stony Brook University. |
March 8, 2013 ~ UNH advances to the America East semifinal for the first time since 2005 as Kelsey Hogan hits a buzzer-beater three to lift the Wildcats over Stony Brook 49-46. |
January 3, 2014 ~ Kristen Anderson became the first Wildcat freshman to register at least 30 points since Kris Kenney accomplished the feat on Feb. 7, 1986 at home against Boston University. Anderson dropped 30 points in a 77-74 overtime win at Brown University. |
January 3, 2014 ~ Senior guard Kelsey Hogan scored 14 points and became the 17th member of the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team's 1,000-point club, and the Wildcats won their sixth straight game, 60-45, against the University of Vermont at Lundholm Gymnasium. |
January 2014 ~ New Hampshire won six consecutive games, marking the first time since the 1998-99 season that the Wildcats have accomplished the feat. The six consecutive wins is the most that head coach Maureen Magarity has registered in her career at the helm. |
March 6, 2014 ~ A total of four University of New Hampshire women's basketball student-athletes, led by America East First Team selection Kelsey Hogan were honored at the conference's annual banquet that was held at the Albany Campus Ballroom. Joined by Hogan includes America East Second Team mention Corinne Coia, Third Team honoree Elizabeth Belanger and All-Academic recipient and co-captain Kaylee Kilpatrick. Hogan became the 10th Wildcat to be presented the First Team award and the first since Denise Beliveau received the honor in 2012. |
March 2014 ~ New Hampshire finished the 2013-14 season with an overall record of 19-12 and 12-4 against America East opponents, the most wins in a single season since the 1998-99 season (19-8, 13-5 AE). After a 4-7 start to the season, UNH followed by winning 14 of its next 19 games and tallied a season-high six-game unbeaten streak. The Wildcats finished the season third in the America East standings and reached the tournament semifinals for the second consecutive year. |
April 24, 2014 ~ UNH athletic director Marty Scarano announced that head coach Maureen Magarity has agreed to a five-year contract extension. |
January 7, 2015 ~ Senior forward Kaylee Kilpatrick recorded two blocks in a loss against Albany to get to 100 blocks in her career. She is the fifth player in program history to reach this feat. |
January 2015 ~ New Hampshire topped Hartford, 65-63, extending its winning streak to five games, all against America East teams. It was the longest winning streak on the season for the Wildcats. |
February 6, 2015 ~ Senior forward Kaylee Kilpatrick received her first-ever selection to the CoSIDA Divison I Women's Basketball Academic All-District First Team. She is the only player in the America East Conference given this honor. |
March 1, 2015 ~ New Hampshire defeated Maine on Senior Day, 61-47. Maine came into the game on a 14-game winning streak. The senior class consisting of Sarah-Marie Frankenberger, Ariel Gaston, Kaylee Kilpatrick, and Madison Lopez were recognized. |
March 7, 2015 ~ Fourth-seeded New Hampshire lost to fifth-seeded Hartford, 58-42, in the America East quarterfinals. The Wildcats finished the season with a record of 17-12 and 9-7 in league play. |
November 22, 2015 ~ In a 60-67 loss to the University of Pennsylvania, senior Elizabeth Belanger hit the 1,000-point milestone on a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter. She became the 19th player in program history to accomplish the feat and ended her career ranked 5th in program history with 1,453 career points. She also finished seventh in rebounding with 703 career boards. Belanger is one of only three players with 1,400 points and 700 rebounds in her career. |
January 16, 2016 ~ Senior Elizabeth Belanger scored a career high 32 points in a 54-63 loss at Stony Brook. Two games later on January 21st, Belanger eclipsed 32 points again in a 65-61 win over UMass Lowell. |
February 8, 2016 ~ Sophmore Aliza Simpson dished out a career high 11 assists in 55-59 loss at the University of Maine. Simpson's 11 assists were two shy of the team's record of 13, set by Christine Gulas on February 21, 1984. |
February 25, 2016 ~ Senior Stephanie Spoto recorded her first career double-digit rebounding game with 12 boards on Senior Night in a 59-63 loss against Vermont. |
March 5, 2016 ~ The No. 7 Wildcats fell to second-seeded Maine in the America East quarterfinals by a score of 58-47. UNH finished the season with a 12-18 record and a 6-10 mark in conference play. |
November 22, 2016 ~ Junior Brittni Lai scored 17 straight points in the 4th quarter as the Wildcats beat Bryant for their second win of the season. |
December 1, 2016 ~ Junior Carlie Pogue scored a career high 26 points, and Lai hit a three-pointer at the regulation buzzer to send the game against Northeastern into overtime. The ‘Cats went on to win the game, 66-63. |
January 4, 2017 ~ The Wildcats rallied from down 18 points to win their first conference game of the year against Stony Brook, 49-46. |
January 11, 2017 ~ Newcomer Olivia Healey scored 14 points in the 4th quarter in her first game as a Wildcat. The ‘Cats defeated Albany, 71-58, for the first time in three years. |
January 19, 2017 ~ Coach Magarity reached her 100th career win as a head coach with the Wildcats with a 50-44 win over rival Maine. |
February 1, 2017 ~ The Wildcats won their 13th straight game, the longest winning streak in program history, and improved their record to 19-3 after defeating Stony Brook. |
February 6, 2017 ~ The Wildcats had their 13-game win streak broken with a 64-55 loss to Albany. This was the Wildcats first conference loss of the year. |
February 18, 2017 ~ The Wildcats clinched their first outright regular season American East championship in program history with a 62-57 win over Hartford |
March 4, 2017 ~ The 1st seeded Wildcats dropped their semifinal game of the American East playoffs to 4th seeded Maine, 61-52. |
March 17, 2017 ~ The Wildcats lost to Harvard, 69-56, in the first round of the WNIT. This concluded the Wildcats season, finishing with a record of 26-6. |
December 6, 2018 ~ Gogolin's 23 points Lead to Cats second straight home win. |
