NCAA Infraction Report
DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire has been placed on two years probation for failing to monitor the conduct of a booster, according to a decision issued by an NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions panel. The violations occurred over a four-year period and included impermissible financial aid, cash payments, and graduation gifts to student-athletes who had completed their eligibility.
The University self-reported the violations and fully cooperated with the NCAA investigation that ensued. In addition to the probation the NCAA Committee on Infractions fined the institution $5,000, and requires several staff members and coaches to attend the NCAA Regional Rules Seminars. The penalties also call for increased educational efforts and disassociation with the booster. The COI agreed that no competitive advantage was gained due to these infractions. There are no competition penalties, scholarship reductions or recruiting visit restrictions placed upon the University, and there was no show cause issued to any members of the coaching staffs.
In accordance with the standard additional administrative penalties, the University will continue to develop and implement a comprehensive educational program on NCAA legislation to coaches and staff members as well as boosters and members of the greater UNH community. Prospective student-athletes in the affected sports will be informed that the institution is on probation for two years and that violations were committed.
